41 posts in this topic

i know its not totally accurate but i checked my acceleration times the other day on a stop watch.

0-60 = 5 sec

0-100 = 10.45 sec

anyone else with remaps timed their cars?

Wow, 0-100 in 10.45s is seriously fast.

Are we talking mph !!!

Checkout the "Faceoff between stock GTI, ABT GTI, Wetterbauer GTI, Wendland GTI and B&B GTIAutomotive" video you can download here :-

http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10

To summarise their results :-

...........................Power...Torque...0-100kph...Top Speed

Standard GTI.......207ps...320Nm....7.1........142mph

Wetterauer GTI....242ps...382Nm....6.3........152mph

ABT Gti................225ps...346Nm....6.7........151mph

B&B Gti................249ps...361Nm....6.7........148mph

Wendland GTi.......257ps...369Nm....6.0........153mph

I think 0-100kph is 0-62mph, so nearly the same !

I have converted the top speeds in the table above to mph from kph

Pity they don't give the 0-100mph times in the video as these would have been more telling, I'm sure !

I don't understand German so I'm not sure what all the tuned GTI's comprise of...anyone help out on a translation ?

Stop watch timings for 0-60's are very inaccurate. People tend to click stop before the speedo hits 60, this is just human nature, and when you factor in the speedo over-reading, you could actually only be doing 50mph when you press stop.

However, even car magazines with their gps timing kits have serious issues with the GTI 0-60, as I've seen times ranging from 6.4 to 7.3 seconds!

Either by some miracle a few hundred quid remap of a 2 litre front wheel drive hatchback has enabled it to match the latest Porsche 911 Carrera to 60mph and beat it to 100mph, or I'd say your figures were a tad out! grin.gif

Call me cynical but I have to question those timings especially if they were done by Jay himself whilst driving.

Please will someone call a doctor. I'm in stitches. yelrotflmao.gif

I timed my A4 TDi to 60 the other day after half emptying the washer bottle. It hit 60 so quickly I didn't have time to even start the stopwatch. I don't know what it's 0-100 time was because I was too busy concentrating on watching the Bugatti Veyron disappear in my rear view mirror. shocked.gif

The credibility and usefulness of the above is in line with the original post. ROLLEY~14.GIF

To give you an idea my megablade was 0-60 in 3.6 and 0-100 in 8.9 and that had about 400bhp/tonne.

Think again mate, or get you watch adjusted 169144-ok.gif

Hi Jay,

Did you time your car's performance using it's speedo or a GPS device such as a Road Angel?

The speedo is allowed to be +10%/-0% inaccurate legally. Each car will vary but, for example, mine consistently reads: 100mph on speedo = 87mph on Road Angel.

What sort of stopwatch did you use? Operated by yourself while driving?

No, in all seriousness Jay - I'm afraid those figures look wildly optimistic.

If you want to have a go at timing your own runs then I'd suggest getting hold of a Racelogic box 169144-ok.gif

I'd say my S3 with 265bhp is quicker but I wouldn't expect more than about 5.8s to 60 from that (finest Butt Chrono timing there of course!). No idea about the 0-100 time but 10.anything seconds is hideously fast - i.e new M5 fast and I'm afraid yours isn't that quick tongue.gif

Hi Red,

Are you sure! because that would be 13% error confused.gif. My Tomtom reads 73mph when I see 80 on the speedo (almost 10% which is quite a lot)

Hi blade,

Yes, mine is +13% inaccurate. I have spoken to VW UK and they are happy to replace the whole unit but I can't be bothered because I don't use the car speedo anyway, especially as VW absolutely cannot guarantee me an accurate replacement.

Robin, that is a significant shift in the speedo being inaccurate. Just to satisfy my curiosity though, how accurate is the road angel and determining your road speed?

Well, I can only repeat what I have been told and that is a GPS system is far more accurate (within 1 mph). There can be a tiny delay (fraction of a second) between the actual speed achieved and its display but it's negligable and doesn't effect driving style or speed maintenance.

I don't agree. The GPS can be accurate if you maintain a speed on a level road but apart from that they vary and always play catch up. When they do it's often a second of so behind.

I've driven with cruise control on and hills and descents affect the displayed GPS speed even though the car maintains it.

By the way, my speedo is accurate to 0.5mph and my GPS never matches it unless I'm cruising on fairly level ground.

p.s. Jaysgti - you didn't really beleive those times did you ? shocked.gif

Why is your speedo so accurate? Do you realise that if you speedo under reads then you're driving illegally? To have such an accurate speedo I can only assume that you're a police officer in a traffic car, as even panda cars do not have a calibrated speedo. It's something that has to be checked on a regular basis.

Some cars just are. My RS4 was pretty accurate too.

Indicated 180Mph was 176mph on the GPS.

On a runway. Obviously grin.gif

It's nothing special apart from mines always seems very accurate. I then did Vmax and the timing equipment said 164mph and the dash was about bang on it. It matches the GPS etc (when flat, cruise etc). Just one of those weird ones I guess.

thanks all you guys.... thought those figures would give you a chuckle.. ROFL

yes i did hand hold a stopwatch while driving... and yes i do take the figures with a pinch of salt.

my remap is giving 265 BHP and 405 Nm/torque. 1 would think 5.5 0-60 and 11.? 0-100 to be a more accurate figure.. will have to get down to santa pod and get it checked properly.

is a hoot to drive though...

You've never driven a 5.5 car or an 11.? 0-100 car have you?

I'd take a punt at 6.0 and 15secs. I think if you expect your figures you're gonna be in for a big shock.
