Recentlyhad opportunity to stay at this resort in Varedero, Cuba. Resort is 5 star (that is what we were told) on the coast, with sea views from many rooms. Resort has several jacuzzi pools, main pool, seafront seatsing, 7 resteraunts. Room grades are delux, premium delux and ocean view, basically the delux has garden views, premium adds minibar fascilities and better views, ocean view are slightly bigger rooms, bigger balconies and minibar fascilities.

Arrival - Mediocre (sp) at best, hearded into a corner, given fizzy wine in plastic champagne glasses and left to wonder whats happening. Eventually being given the wrong room keys and having to get them re-coded.

Room - we had Premier Delux - so mid level room, in 7 days the minibar was restocked once despite several requests to housekeeping, etc. Room quality was on the low side of average, bathroom fascilities were clean but little if any hot water, generally luke warm at best. Towels were threadbear and not 'sandals' branded as were bathrobes. Beach towels provided both had holes / rips in - 3 exchanges finally resulted in 2 whole towels.

Resteraunts - 7 Resteraunts, 1 is closed each day of the week - so that limits choice to 6, upon arrival we were advised that 3 'a la carte' resteraunts were fully booked for 4 days lowering the choice to 3. 1 of these was a Buffet where food was not refreshed regularly, shelfish selection was laughable and general basic food hygene rules were overlooked. General food quality was poor throughout, with only the japanese resteraunt worth a visit as everythign was cooked fresh in front of you. Service was poor throughout regardless of tipping, etc.

Bars: Finding the premium branded drinks was hard work, most of the time it was hidden from view or in stores and you specifically had to ask (for say Jim beam or JD), externally drinks were served in small plastic cups, internally small glass cups, again service sucked, if you could secure more than one drink in 45 minutes you had probably gone behidn the bar and served yourself. Table service was also poor with waits of upto 15mins common.

Resort - clean, usable ammenities, but shallow pools made swimming difficult (belly rubs on the bottom!!!), beach had no real bar fascilities and sunbeds were in short supply anywhere.

Over all I'd suggest you give it a miss, the service is dire and food was little better. If you are lookign for 'ultimate' inclusive as a treat to you and partner then give this a wide berth, its a long long way behind the rest of the caribean.
