Rattle when engine under load

2 posts in this topic

Got a 1.8T Auto passat my 2000 'W' when the engine is under load there is a rattling sound coming from around the engine bay / front axle area (but hard to diagnose because it doesnt do it when stationary (or is that stationery). Also occasionally under heavy braking you also get a clunk noise from the same area.

Can anyone suggest what this might be, any help most appreciated.

Its not the engine mounts getting worn mate is it?

If they are worn and the engines under load, the torque generated could be causing slight movement, likewise under weight transfer from braking.

Other than that mate, I dunno, rattling under load could be "pinking" but I doubt it on a modern ECU controlled car with knock sensors!

You could check the Diagnostics with VAG com to check the knock sensor isn't faulty maybe? confused.gif
