Hi wonder if anyone can help - looking to personalise my beetle cabriolet (o5 registerd) by having it lowered, by doing so does a vw specialist need to do anything or can new springs just be fitted (if so any recomendations on manufacturers). I am looking to fit some new alloys and is there a maximum size for the cabriolet? it has 17" already that may look good when lowered but can I go bigger and what is recommended? Finally - I like the lexus style rear lamps but have been told they can be problematic? any advice on these?

Welcome to tyresmoke.

Lights.

DO you mean This sort? if so I never had any problems, potentially you need to add a reflector as they dont have one so might fail MOT, but mine passed with them. THose are also for sale.

Wheels - you can fit anythign upto 20's on the Beetle.

Check out www.newbeetle.org.uk - there are some guys runnign 20's. I used to run 19's if you check out My 1st Beetle those were 19's and didnt affect ride quality much.

Suspension - I just gave away a set of coilovers!!!! Springs - i'd look at H&R, Eibach i've had both as springs and they have been fine. If you want to improve handling then i'd look at Koni dampers matched to a new spring set, if you want to go very low then look for some coilovers - cost would be for coilovers around £500 plus fitting (maybe £200).

Hope that helps.

Hi thanks for that.I am bit confused now. Coilovers? I was advised I just needed to change the springs and that would cost about £100 to purchase plus fitting. Do I need more than just springs then? How much can I expect to lower it by? how much are you selling your lights for?
