Why not keep the same car, but low, with all the dynamic advantages that would give? coffee.gif

grin.gif because it leaves something for Gemballa, Techart, Sportech et al to do jump.gif

I like you, can appreciate a quality watch and take pleasure from wearing one. But for the same reason Porsche make the Cayenne Turbo S, Rolex make this piece of sh*te.

Words fail me as to how ghastly this watch is.

I missed this somehow first time around, aaaarrgh my eyes my eyes!! EEK2.GIFEEK2.GIFEEK2.GIF

A bike really doesn't have to be fast or lightweight. Harley's are just as "proper" a motorbike as any other and are built to very high standards and have much individual style. But this is a digression. My point was how the phrase also applies to the Cayenne.

The bottom line is that some of us love the Cayenne and others detest it and none of us are likely to change our opinion so it's a waste of time discussing it much further. ZZZ.gif

I think we need to consider the roads of the world before you carry on slanging off the Cayenne.

I'm pretty sure Porsche looked around the world and came up with a car that is a half and half solution, Here in the UK we have blacktop everywhere, lets drop the Cayenne into:-

UAE / middle east zone- Perfect car for the sand swept highways

Monsoon areas- Perfect car for roads with water

American Country side- Renown for pot holes and general Lee type Hill Billy road, perfect car for the roads.

Boy with all the toys- jet ski's, quad bikes, power boats, mud bikes, go karts, dingy, canoes, Rally cars, Junior Formula racing- perfect car for towing and snob appeal when arriving.

The problem is we as English see the Cayenne as a useless waste of space, because in the UK we see no reason for it's existence.

The same does not apply in other Countries, where the car will be more practical and sell better because of it's design matching the user's requirement.

OK on the world market you could argue that Toyota and various other 4 x 4 names would be a better option, not if you have a garage with a 959, 911 T4,GT2 or GT3 in the garage.

I like it and if you compare the Audi Q7 with the general Audi range, the Cayenne with the Porsche range, how is it different.

Audi believe they have a Q7 market, which they have built to sell to the Audi faithful- Porsche have done the same thing (with the highest (no specialist)spec Porsche engine in it).

Have one? Yes please and in a different colour for each day of the week 169144-ok.gifgrin.gif

Well, clearly not everybody sees it as useless as there are a hell of a lot of them around.

I just think it is hard to deny that they are in the main a fashion accessory in the UK. To some people, they are an irritating fashion accessory because they are so big and therefore either obstructive or unsafe or both (depending on your personal opinion).

Come what may, they are a matter of personal choice and are unlikely to go away until the marketing people find a way to sell something even more expensive.

I can see where most of you are coming from about the looks and the purpose of the Cayenne, but don't pass judgement until you've actually driven one.

They're fast, they handle, they're built well, not really an off-roader but for a spacious daily car they're excellent. I'd definitely choose this over the Range Rover as it doesn't make you sea-sick when cornering! 169144-ok.gif

Methinks that JamesB has hit the nail squarely on the head in both his posts above and alexc, having driven one, understands what they are all about.

For me the Cayenne would be a very natural progression from my Mk5 GTI (assuming I had the dosh available and a bigger garage!). In fact I momentarily considered it but quickly decided against spending so much on a car....One day perhaps, and especially if I leave the UK.

Hmmm....I wonder what their second-hand value is ?

How many buyers do you suppose want an offroad tyre for their Cayenne? grin.gif

[/ QUOTE ]

....Good point, Ari - Very few I expect. And hence supporting the idea that the 'Big Porky C' isn't primarily a true off-roader but merely capable of it with the right boots.

The fact that the Cayenne notworthy.gif is really the only one being discussed in this "High performance 4x4's" thread surely tells us something!

not many im sure

But if they make them to order like i know Bridgestone do for some of their truck tyres they can charge what they want and if anyone did want them they would be there. 169144-ok.gif

So basically you're all pretty much agreeing with me, making the Cayenne an "offroader" was pretty much utterly pointless, as backed up by Porsche themselves by making a version that cannot accept offroad tyres.

Jolly good, glad you all agree! grin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gif

No, not pointless at all. As JamesB so economically put it....It's as much about marketing and appealing to people's dreams, aspirations, and the image they want for themselves.

I always pull over for something faster behind me, and especially something as big as a Cayenne. We all love high performance vehicles so why trash the Cayenne ? And it's a Porsche!

In other words, no actual practical purpose whatsoever, other than making little people feel big. grin.gif

Rather ironic that you make these two statements in the same post! Try a Full-size-grown-up 4.2 S/C and THEN form an opinion! A proper 4x4 that actually can go off road!

Pointless vehicle. Flush.gif

[/ QUOTE ]

define point though? As we all know the point of these cars is not to go off-road. If instead you consider the point to be, to provide a handy and obvious sign that the occupants are people who like to flaunt their wealth no matter how vulgar, I think the turbo S hits the spot superbly. You could normally ascertain this by how they look but as they insist on blacking out the windows on all their vehicles you can't. jump.gif

The Cayenne is very popular in London. Given its hideous looks and that it doesn't do anything better than its cheaper / better-looking twin the Toerag or a much better-looking RRS (in terms of how it is used which is cruising/school run) I asumme it is a way the wealthy can prove their wealth by having not only a Porsche sports car but also a Porsche 4x4. ie the sniffpetrol spoof hits the spot perfectly IMHO.

....But you could say the same about cabriolet drivers (though I personally don't have that opinion!) - Some say that cabs increase and satisfy the pose factor grin.gif.
