Well I'm glad things seem to be working out Oli and that you will be fully recompensed. But my thoughts are with you because I know how I'd feel if it happened to my car and I haven't invested all the time, money and effort on modifications that you have. Heartbreaking!

Thats a pain, sorry to hear this. Only accept "like for like" all your extras. Free legal advice from your insurances lawyers should not affect your ncb.

I thought the car only locked its self if you remotely unlock it and then doent open a door for a period of time?

[/ QUOTE ]me too.

[/ QUOTE ]

....Me too! I'm pretty certain this is the only circumstance it self locks.

[/ QUOTE ]

Thats handy to know. I know some Mercs lock regardless .... been caught out once blush.gif

On the eBay point, you should create a watchlist of keywords. Golf GTi, 19" Challenge, BBS, etc. That way you'll know immediately of everything that appears.

The chances are fairly high it might not be in the country by now though, but I sincerely hope not.

with a car like this.......the chances are it is already on a container on way to a warmer climate

unless it was an oppertunist theft which seems unlikely...

whichever way is no consolation and i do feel for you... pengy.gif

OMG Oli mad.gif

I have been away from the forum for a few days and I have just sat and read all the comments! I cannot believe this has happened to you, especially after all your recent work on the car too, and the excitement of doing so.

Echoing everyones comments here, I am absolutely gutted for you mate, I don't think anyone can place themselves in your shoes and know how you must feel.

Simply unbelieveable, and I agree with others comments, this seems very much like some kind of 'inside' job where some dodgy character has phoned someone else and 'arranged' to leave the keys somewhere convenient. You may know the owner of the tyre wholesaler well, but who knows who he/she employs?

Real glad its all going to be sorted out though, and I really do hope the police don't find your old car, as harsh as that may sound. It'd never be the same again for you if you had it back, not knowing what had been done to it whilst stolen.

Keep us posted, I am sure I speak for all of us here when I say I wish you all the best and hope a replacement is swiftly delivered. Also hoping this doesn't put you off having another GTi, would be a shame to lose a valued member on here due to something like theft, we simply can't let these 'scum' ruin everything that decent folk work hard for and pay for out of their own pockets. Think its disgusting that there are people in this world who simply think its okay to help themselves to something that isn't theirs, instead of working for it like the rest of us.

Sorry for the rant Oli and everyone else, just damn annoyed for you!!! SAUER0421.GIF

Try and get the value of your private plate back too Oli. I had a car stolen many years ago which had only had my cherished plate on it for 2 weeks. The car was never seen again (RS Turbo Escort) but I had to wait a whole year before I could 'apply' to get my plate back from the DVLA. I wouldn't have bothered only it was a 21st birthday present from my parents and therefore had sentimental value too.

Maxxy boy, I would have thought it was an opportunist TBH. Keys in it outside a tyre fitters ?

Of course, in my experience, there's usually some dodgy YTS boys working in tyre garages. Add your own thoughts here. Not saying it's the case here. But it happens.

Chris.

I have just had another meeting with the garage owner, couldn't apologise enough, said he will reimburse any shortfalls, that the insurance company dont pay, will pay for all my mods, all my personal effects, car hire etc etc.. couldn't have been more helpful...which is great news.

I have just found a steel grey 3 door DSG with a good spec which I think I am hoing to put my name down on.

I am starting to smile again smile.gif

Nice spec Oli...I thought you may have gone for a RS4 or something following your conversations on Saturday! GTI is a difficult package to ignore / beat I guess.

Glad things are looking up a bit 169144-ok.gif

Id like to to but I can neither afford or justify £55000 on a car, well not yet anyway. I want to wait a couple of years and then get a 2nd hand one.

His insurance company has put me me in a meriva!!! which is a bit of a bugger, however I have booked a new 3 series demo from BMW next week, so I can travel in some sort of style again.

The loss adjusters are in on wednesday so I should have an answer by midweek.

I might get some pics of the Meriva up here, spec as follows;

15" alloys

privacy glass

twin sunroof

cruise

5speed manual

Oh its to 1.6 16v model,

cant find an ESP button.....wonder why

I also know where there is a 3 door R32 DSG, in shadow blue.

All so tempting sekret.gif

My car has just been recovered in Brighton, undamaged apparently, but locked and used in some sort of crime so I cant get into it to get my personal belongings out. On my way to Hove Police station now.
