BA drinks have always been free on any flight I have ever been on. You might have been on a subsidary flight - i.e. cheap one.

The link seems to have changed...

Does anyone know what the deal is with trying to buy an upgrade on the day? Thinking of doing Canada but really don't want to slum it!

All depends on the airline you are flying with and if there are spare seats available. Just ask at ticket desk when you arrive, when i've done it with Virgin its either 200 quid or x number of flyer miles.

Yeah ask at check in. I know BA also let you do it on board, but that might be full fare charge.

Try and do it onboard. Sit in your seat and after 60 mins stand up and exclaim "feck this" - storm through the curtain to be never seen again.
