davyk31
Going into the dealers today to get some oil to keep my GTI toppped up. What oil do I need? Just want to be sure the generally useless parts guy gives me the right stuff.
robp
Dave, I believe it's Castrol Edge 5W30. Or they may give you Longlife SLXII (this is what they gave me after my service), which is the old version of the same thing http://www.castrol.com/castrol/productdetailmin.do?categoryId=9004868&contentId=7008962
TwoSheds
Or they may offer you Castrol SLX III (5W-30) eqivalent to the Castrol Edge(5W-30). Replacing the older SLX II ( OW-30 ? ). Would be interesting to know why VW changed the formulation. Maybe it had to do with the intro of DPF on some engines.
Shadowman
I picked some up last week from the local VW dealer - it was the Castrol SLXIII (5W-30). That was the only longlife oil they had but it has the correct VW specification number on the back as detailed in the manual. Do make sure you get longlife oil if you are on the longlife service programme.

fresco1
[quote Sorry, Diesel Particulate Filter. [/ QUOTE ] Errr ... seriously hope my GTI doesn't have a DPF, as so far I've not actually filled it with Dr. Diesel's fluids. Or am I missing something here? Is the oil the same across the Golf range, as long as you've opted for the Longlife service set-up??
