AvantSE
My A4 seems to 'hunt' at idle now; the revs go up and down slightly instead of being at a constant idle speed. Apart from being annoying, it sounds crap outside. Any ideas on how to fix it, and where the releveant part(s) is located?
TDiAvant
Changing the MAF sensor fixed that fault on my car, appears to be a common problem with Audi's.
danksy
Could also be the wheel speed sensor Best get someone with vag-com have a look
AvantSE
Danksy, how does that affect it ? Not disputing you, just curious.
Atomic
Idle speed when the car is moving vs. stationary is different, I guess a faulty wheel sensor could fool the ECU in thinking it needs the wrong speed.
Tynxuk
my old car did this but it wasn't a very compicated machine, turned out the bleed pump was faulty and squirted diesel everywhere when pumped when the fuel filter was changed! Once the bleed pump was changed it didn't hunt any more.

TheSaint
I've got a similar problem with mine which was diagnosed as a faulty (albeit intermittent) coolant sensor. It's going in on Wednesday to get it changed. Does the fan come on when the revs go up - even when cold?
AvantSE
Fan didn't come on, on my car. I *seem* to have sorted it - I serviced the car myself for the first time, and while I was changing the air filter, I was going to pop the MAF sensor out to clean it, though I then discovered I didn't have the 6-prong star bits with the recess in the centre, that are necessary to remove it from the pipe. But the idling seems to be better now, I am wondering if disconnecting the electrics to it, and reconnecting them has made a difference.
