Snoopy
I think voting for a company you work for is a bit like cheating. I would also like to know from the people who vote what made them get there impression and also there background, Do you have mecanical background, experience in the motortrade, aftersales background, etc etc too make these judgements with. It also depends heavily imho WHO you deal with so if you must shame, NAME the person you delt with, what department and what level you took it too. Different people could and will have different experiences with different workers at the same dealerships.

Mouse
Specialist Cars (Aberdeen) - Numerous people have collected their cars after a service to find the car damaged. Some of the staff are ignorant and don't seem to care if you have a problem with your car, even if it's still under warranty. The paint shop is crap as they failed to get the bonnet on my dad's GTI resprayed correctly, as with the boot handle on my sister's Polo On the other hand two dealers that offer great service are Glenvarigil (sp?) Dundee and Barnetts of St Andrews

domin8
Smith Knight Fay let me down after I took a GT TDI in for servicing there a couple of years back. The car was pulling really badly to the left. Despite telling them this when I booked the car in the service department didn't even look at the problem even though they said they had and found no fault. This sounded alarm bells straight away but trusting them I went on my way. Half a mile down the road the car was pulling so hard to the left it was difficult to keep in a straight line. I went straight into a National Tyres depot I was passing. I asked them to put it up on the ramp which they did quite happily. The guy came back and asked me if i'd had work done on the steering/suspension recently to which I replied no. He then told me that basically part of the steering arm was about to detach itself as it hadn't been tightened correctly He said he'd tightened the offending part and checked everything was in alignment. After getting over my initial anger I asked how much and he said nothing in a nice way this time. Anyway to cut a long story short i lost my mind (Spandau Ballet -Nov 1980 )and got nowhere with Smith KF who came up with every excuse in the book including their laser guided geometry test rig thingy needed booking weeks in advance even though a bloke with a ramp and spanner spotted and fixed the problem in seconds. I never went back. I've also got a tale about their sales department but I've said enough

mb
To prove there is always 2 sides to every story Breeze in Poole were pretty good yesterday. Changed my fans under warranty, agreed to order new wheel caps & replace the hatch handle (corrosion), failed me on the MOT for track rod end play which they said was covered under warranty. They are struggling to get me a loan car within the 10 days for a no retest MOT but trying their best & even agreed would have to come to an "arangement" on the retest fee if they can't find a car. To be fair I think Jim had warned them first to look after me so maybe we should all book our cars in via him from now on ?
R32Ash
[ QUOTE ] Richard Alexander VW Harrogate, Service dept. due to my mate being the Service Manager (Rusty.) ...I have no connection with VW in any sense, shape or form (other than driving one of their excellent diesel engined cars). Did you think that I did? [/ QUOTE ] I thought this was supposed to be a thread where Dealers were rated by quality of service, not according to knowing someone who works there. I wouldn't be so bothered if it wasn't for the fact your mate's counterpart at Huddersfield is a joke and his staff are clueless. They'd have been quite happy for me to be forking out for a £500+ repair, if I hadn't known more about my car than them and made my way to another dealer, just before the warranty expired. It's not a one-off either. I've been there 3 times for repairs/servicing and each time they've failed to do the job properly or on time, twice necessitating trips to another dealer to complete the job. W*nkers. So fair do's if Harrogate are worthy of the praise (and I'm happy to believe they are) and not just because the boss is your mate, Rusty. Rustynuts
I knew it was a mistake to post about a good service dept. Their service department are fine, but the fact that I know Roger and contact him direct for any problems just means that I have further confidence in them. I thought this thread was supposed to be a naming and shaming of bad dealers balanced with good reviews if anyone has any. Next person to copy and paste the list can remove my recommendations and comments, and you may all continue with your witch hunt. You could even please me double and move the thread back to the R32 forum and bitch about dealers in privacy. Thankyou!

billy2shots
The trouble is, a bad salesman could give us a bad impression of the whole dealership. Fair enough if its service or repair work but we should not slate a dealership if its just one sales guy.
rs32
[ QUOTE ] bitch about dealers in privacy [/ QUOTE ] why ? there are far too many dealers out there (not just VW) that get away with appaling behaviour. Equally there are some excellent ones that never get mentioned because we never remember the good things, only the bad. Whether you're mates with a dealer or not is irrelevant IMO, if they've caused major grief they need shaming - and if they've been saintly then they deserve the credit where due.
