simonevans
I have just bought a 1999 C4 Cab 996 (which is lovely) after selling a Merc. The pads were replaced prior to purchase and I have done about 1000 miles since purchase. Would anyone else describe the brakes as spongy, and rather unresponsive. Clearly they work, but they need good pressure and are not sharp and reactive. I am not sure how they should feel. cheers for anyones comments. patently
They shouldn't be spongy. There is a perception issue, though. Porsche deliberately make the pedal travel longer, to give you more control over the level of braking. This does mean that you have to push further to get full braking, but is a good thing not a bad thing Hit them hard and you should stop quickly and loose a few eyeballs in the process, though. Biscuits
My brakes don't have nearly the same amount of servo assistance as the Audi had, which made them feel unresponsive at first, now I'm used to them they are excellent. P
Chrisg
DHA told me the same - he had got out of a S3. Pete? you had the R32 before the Boxster did you find the same?
sitas3
Chris, just a small point but DHA's (and my old) S3 had the 993TT brakes on the front. I test drove a 993 early last year and found the pedal travel to be greater.
Chrisg
Yes I think Dave said that the travel was greater giving the impression that the brakes were not so effective but he did say that they were much easier to modulate - a harder push resulted in great stopping power and he implied that if you pushed twice as hard it slowed down twice as fast ! I've never driven a 993/6 but have a 986 - too long ago now to remember! So how's your M3 ?
