Shrops_Paul
Hi. Had an accident in the a4 yesterday. Is this a write off? Its a 52 plate 1.8T Sport with 30,000 miles. Cost me £12,000 about 7 months ago from a dealer. Windscreen is cracked badly and both airbags also deployed.
Dave
ooch!! Yes, they will probably write that off.. depends on how much damage there is to the chassis. But if the rads and engine have damage then i expect them to call it a day on that one.
Dave
That looks like quite a heavy impact.. did you hit a lorry or something?.how are you feeling?
Shrops_Paul
It was the merc equivelant of a transit. White van man came flying towards me. I almost stopped in time but he has left about 30m of slid marks and shoved me backwards. I am hoping this will go down as his fault. I walked away with some bruising from the seatbelt and on one of my hands from the steering wheel. No breaks though luckily. It apears the van driver was not wearing a seatbelt so he was a little worse but still walking
Booster
Ouch. Glad you are ok. I'm 99% sure that will be written off.
Tizzy
Usually if the airbags are deployed and there's that much frontal damage it'd be written off. The van skid marks should hopefully indicate his speed and position on (your side of!) the road, so that should help in apportioning blame. Main thing is that you're OK, as Nelson recently discovered, these A4's seem to protect occupants quite well!.
Shrops_Paul
I have apictre of the van but dont want to post it. It shows the skid mark but I dont know if I should go back an measure them myself.
Daz
I would. Get as much evidence as you can. Plenty of pics from all angles, drawings, measurements, etc.

Shrops_Paul
Any ideas what I'll get back from the insurance? Probably not what I paid or what its woth from what people say.
Sponge
Ouch! Bad luck. Glad you're ok. Funny thing though, I saw that picture and one of the first things I noticed was that sharp piece of wing, just above the headlights, and how dangerous it looked. Shrops_Paul
Ah, GAP insurance. Once of those things that seem like a waste of money at the time. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. I wish.
lottiefox
At least you're safe, the car did its job well from the look of it. Get all the evidence you can especially when taking on white van man who'll probably be defending his job and trying to make out it was your fault.. Sorry about the car and good luck with a speedy resolution....

jwo
These a4s certainly seem to stand up well. Glad you are okay!
EssFour
The insurers will probably write it off based on the cars evaluation and the cost of reparing the vehicle and not the extent of the damage. It is repairable IMO based on the pictures provided and I can assure you it will be sold at a salvage auction and back on the road in 6 months. the911sc
glad you are ok, get as much evidence as poss inc pictures(lots). The police were there by the look so they will have measured the skid marks...
lesK
I wrote off a Mondeo about 18 months ago. The insurers are pretty good with paying out. What I did was look around in Exchange and Mark etc for cars around the same age and mileage and geet an idea of the current value of the car. When they then ring up and offer you a price on your car you can bargain with them knowing what your car would be worth, this does work. I ended up getting slightly more than I expected for my car (and cheekily even got them to give me 2nd hand value for a towbar and bike rack! ) Glad to see you got out ok. Something else to take into account is to remove everything that you want to keep literally! once they agree a price they will take the car away before you know it (stereos CD's alloys etc etc)
