Tarmac_Terrorist
OK - not specifically the GTI but a 2 page article in this weeks Auto Express about the new model tipped to be on sale Autumn 08. Also says that R32 will keep the 3.2 and not get the 3.6 - possible twincharger engine for GTI and updated DSG. Supposed to have bluetooth connectivity & ipod bits as standard plus improved dash design ans plastics Linky

fresco1
I'd imagine that photo is getting very close to how the production MkVI will look - gentle evolution, some nice sharp edges etc. Maybe a bit like the Mk1 to Mk2 Audi TT evolution? Subtle, but changes more obvious when you look for a while ...
Tarmac_Terrorist
There are no pics of the interior but some very good images of the exterior. Personally, The back of the car is an improvement but the front a bit bacon-foil-bling-like and not to my personal liking. I guess the GTI will keep the honeycomb grills. Overall, it comes across to me more like a face lift rather than a new model. The existing platform remains although the rear multi link suspension is being simplified. RedRobin
Hmm....These pics look more like a face-lift than a Mk6. I'd expect a greater difference between Mk5 and Mk6 judging by all previous transitions. I quite like the headlights though. Perhaps I should get some carbonfibre eyelids . OliFH
hmmm - not sure about those headlights...looks like they've tried to copy bmw and come up with a renault

OliFH
yeah - i agree, actually quite like them once i've got accustomed to them - just think that pic has ended up looking a bit like a new clio from the front
oxfordlad
Does not look too bad, an improvement on the standard model thats for sure.
RedRobin
I've just read the AutoExpress feature in my local WHSmith 'library'. They reckon new Golf in Autumn 2008 which I reckon would mean GTI Mk6 in Autumn 2009 at the earliest. Personally I reckon the Mk6 GTI will be a TSI turbo+supercharger. I don't think that there'll be as much difference between Mk5 and 6 as there is between Mk4 and 5, but I'm speculating. The Mk5 is a hard act to follow imo. RedRobin
Anyone notice the neat LED 'driving lights' where the fogs usually are. German Audis have those - Very cool and a great safety feature on fast roads. High Performance: I'd rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it !! Tarmac_Terrorist
The rear lights look like LED type too. If it's to be believed, all models will aparently get the roof spoiler too. They're gonna have to go some to dinsinguish the GTI from side and rear profile.
Snoopy
I know it will prob be totally different to these photo BUT anyone fancy trying to photoshop the GTI type grill onto one of them?

CMC950
I couldn't be happier that the next GTI will simply be a watered down (cheaper to build) face lift (face drop if you ask me) of the Mk 5. (a) I wont be tempeted and (b) that should keep the Mk5 residuals looking strong!
Tarmac_Terrorist
I agree - I'm surprised that it will even be recognised as a mkvi. If those pics are anything to go by it will be a minor facelift from a visual point of view. If you replace the bling bling grill with honeycombe then there would be very little change to the untrained eye - good for MKV residuals
Snoopy
Don't fool yourself that prices will stay what you think is high after a new model comes out and is out a bit prices will always tumble. Also don't confuse cheaper to build as in less time to assemble as cost cutting on materials etc.
CMC950
Snoopy, a 993 Porsche residuals are far better than those of (its replacement) the early 996, because the demand for a 993 is far greater. This is because the 996 wasn't a great car (asthetics have a huge bearing on this) had consequently suffered low demand in the 2nd hand market, which drives dove down residuals. Honestly, if the MK6 gti is not percieved to be an improvement over the MK5, the same will occur to MK5 residuals, like it or not!
