Hi Guys

Looking to sell my MkIV R32 and get a diesel after recently buying my first house.

Been looking at the New shape Seat Leon Fr(cheap looking interior), Golf GT 170(Bland looking) and Civic Type S GT(felt souless after test drive))

Any ideas what i can go for - i know i wont get the performance of my R but need something with a bit of character and needs to be realiable(tall order i know)

Im contemplating selling my R and buying old Shape Seat Leon FR+(which i like the look of) for about 12.5K - and reduce my running costs and wait until a newer diesel hits the market or my price range - that ticks most boxes)

help/advice appreciated

for that money its got to be the following

i'd choose: in order -

bmw 120d - quick, great chasis, some chips work but high cost

toyota auris sr180 - same perf. as 120d, a lot cheaper and reliable can be chipped to 210bhp and 505nm

skoda fabia vrs - fantastic car if you can get past its a skoda

others but not worth it considering the above

leon tdi - ok... definatly cheap or empty feeling inside

audi a3 tdi - much nicer than the golf but again expensive

golf 170tdi - pointless amount of money and too common and costs far too much

civic 2.2cdti - silly design

Renault megane 177 - some people like it but its french so poor quality inside and out

And realistically, once you chip either the 120d or sr180 it really isn't that far off if not matching the r32's in gear acceleration. You'd be suprised and you'll still get 45mpg on a gentle run. 38-42mpg on avg. more realistically.

I went from an Ibiza tdi 130 sport to a Leon TDI FR. I was looking at a Golf 170 as well.

With a different spec (DSG with paddles) the price was heading to £25k, in the end the Leon was £18k with bluetooth, sunroof, conveinence pack, 18" wheels. The interior is definitely cheaper than the golf and the residuals won't be as good.

The 120d felt a lot smaller and the 3 series has a boot not a hatch.
