Jennifer
I noticed at the weekend whilst washing my 2005 55 GTi that I have the dreaded worms similer to those experienced on the 18" alloys appearing on my Boot handle the large VW badge. has anyone else had this and have VW replaced it as part of the warrenty? Thanks Jen
DHA
I think I recall someone saying their bootbadge had some problems, worming and getting stuck in the up position due to damp ingress.
mikemod
Yep, I had worms on mine, looked just like the worms on the centre wheel caps. I had the Boot Badge replaced at the last service
Jennifer
Thanks for that, I will be doing the same, although I have no idea when the next service is. Will definately be before the car is 3 years old. I also need them to fix the speaker in the drivers door!
Tarmac_Terrorist
I thought it was only the latest models which were getting worms on the rear badge as they were a slightly different design (ie. not the shallow 3d style emblem but a flat badge style if you get my waffle!). If I remember correctly, VW were replacing these with the 'old' 3D style handles.
seanie4
I had worms on my boot handle and also on my wheels. They were all replaced under warranty and now I have one of the old type boot handle (not the flat one). It looks so much better although the spring is much tighter now and nearly takes your hand off!
mikemod
The flat one is the older type and the raised one is the new type. The worms seem to occur on the older type. Here are a couple of pics that Snoopy showed in an earlier thread. The older type is the top one the newer and present type is the lower one. Jennifer
I have the old style on my 55 reg GTi so might explain the worms. Will definately be asking for it to be replaced shortly. Thanks for your help everyone.
clown
Yes found it had happened to mine this week whilst cleaning,as you open the handle I could notice a large white ingres on the edge, the same as the wheel caps. The car is booked in for its second service so have arranged replacement under warranty,I too noticed the new design and have asked for this to be fitted. If you were buying this yourself they retail at £70 + VAT . I have also noticed a line on the wheel Monza 11`s and these are cleaned weekly, these are not going to last very good in the future. The ED30 Alloys being painted are a better bet but just look horrible.
