MkV Oil Consumption?

14 posts in this topic

How much oil are people's MkV's drinking? It's just that my oil light came on at 2500 miles, so I checked the oil level, and it was very very low.

Is this normal?

It shouldn't use very much at all. May need a little top up here and there but nothing quite like what your saying crazy.gif

Hmmm. I called VW as soon as I found out as I was pretty sure it was wrong. They kept going on about it being long life oil, which it obviously isn't or there's a problem.

I had to put a litre in just to get home. If there is a problem, I will be asking them to flush the system and change the oil.

The tolerances the allow for in oil consumption are just plain stupid. Fact is, these engines don't and shouldn't continually need lots of oil putting in them...

Mine's done 6k in very hot weather (40+ degrees) and doesn't seem to have used a drop.

I put just under 1 litre in every 1100 miles or so.

I'm told by VW that the tolerance level is 1 litre every 600 miles.

It costs me a fortune in oil, which is one of the reasons why I don't intend to keep the car outside of it's warranty period frown.gif
