Default Performance filter?

Hi All

I am having my A3 2.0 Tdi 140 Superchipped on Thursday and I'm wondering whether it's worth (ie. will I notice) fitting a performance replacement panel filter at the same time and if so which make is best?

there's no point, the generic re-map won't be programmed for an after market filter.

if anything it will just make your car feel worse.

there are people who will argue otherwise, but personally i don't think any form of after market air intake will make any difference.

so the answer is, no you won't notice.

after you get it chipped post about how it feels!!

Hi
I am having it done at Hickleys in Taunton Somerset, it's a Superchips centre and has has just got the hardware to do my 2005 A3 TDi 140... they are doing a special deal over December instead of £513 they are doing it for £408 inc. VAT.

Not to far from you if your in Devon...

I've always been of the view that you should do all the physical mods (exhaust, filter, sparks etc) before the remap in order to give the remap the highest potential figures to work with. If your car is pulling in x more litres of air/second than stock, then a good remap should take this into account as each remap is supposed to be custom - or at least thats what I thought!!!

Saying that, I'm not sure if Superchips is a custom remap and therefore much more off the shelf? Correct me if I'm wrong!

Not many re-maps are custom.

AMD are the only ones I know offhand that do custom remaps, superchips definately don't (well at least thru their franchises)

On another note, I think if you do mod the exhaust/intake etc... and get significantly better gains from a custom re-map you'd be putting your reliability at too much risk with standard parts, clutch slip springs to mind on a diesel with 300+ lbs/ft torque.

To help you make a choice on this, my TT with AMD remap, ehaust, cats and stock airbox made 274.9 bhp, same car with various replacement filters, induction kits, etc made iro 256bhp - thats nearly a 20bhp drop, so I would say not to bother.

Was that second car running one of those crappy under the bonnet induction kits that sucks in hot air?

IT was a variety of kits, some with a cold air feed, some panels, the problem was at the time that none of them offered any kind of heat shielding, so sucking in hot air was inevitable.
