I'm sure I read somewhere that the reason this function is disabled in the UK was that there are radio clock transmitters in different coutries, obviously transmitting the time in that country. In the UK we are very close to France if on the south coast, which would be fine but for BST. So the problem is you could be on UK radio time oop North, then drive to the south coast and have your radio clock pick up France and put the clock an hour out.
Of course this might all be BS, but that is what I understood the reason to be for the radio clock being disabled in the UK.

Ari you pretty much hit the nail on the head, thats indeed why they disable it.
I dont see why Audi dont setup a attena for the UK with a different frequency band

IIRC in the manual it says you can select an offset from the signal. This was why when I got the car I really expected it to work

Yeah, but if the UK transmitter is on UK BST then theres no point in offsetting it an hour cos you'll have the wrong time. But if you leave it with no offset so it tells the right time, then if you pick up a different transmitter from another country (ie France if you are in Dover for example) it'll adjust to their time.

True but I was (still am) under the impression that our cars only pick up the Germany frequency and not the Rugby one, which means it should work.

You may well be right, it's just that this is what I recall reading somewhere explaining why the radio clock was turned off on UK cars...

The UK-based transmitter (Rugby - MSF) transmitts on 60kHz, the German one (Frankfurt - DCF) is on 77.5kHz. There's no chance of the receiver getting confused by receiving the 'wrong' one. Also, AFAIAA, there is no 'French' timecode transmission. The German signal should be usable up to 2000km from the transmitter. The range of the UK tranmitter, which radiates at only half the power of the German tranmitter, will be somewhat less. I have several 'radio' clocks in my house, some of which use the MSF signal, and some use DCF.
