Default Golf IV - how to increase/disable 30 second auto alarm?

When I disable the locks/alarm using the fob there's about 30 seconds before the system auto alarms.

How do I increase the time limit?

Thanks in advance.

I've never specifically looked but I don't know of a way to do that I'm afraid.

You can't do it easily, it would involve using a program like VAG Tacho or similar to re-write the codes which control the timing - also very e\sy to render your car useless using these programs unless you're a pro!

Thanks. It seems a bit daft that the alarm set after about 30 seconds. I'm sure how quick VW think I am at loading/unloading!

I thought it only re-armed if you unlocked the car and then didn't open a door/ or boot?

Surely just unlock it and then open a door??

Just read this properly... Are you saying that you unlock the car, open the door/boot to start loading and after 30sec, the car locks again (and if you have any dooes open the alarm goes off)? Is that what you mean, because if so you have a (common) problem.
The 30sec thing is deliberate. If you unlock the car and don't touvh it for 30sec, it will re-lock itself and the alarm will be activated - it's a security feature in case you unlock the car then get distracted and forget to lock it again, e.g. leave the house, unlock the car, phone rings, go back in the house.

If you're saying what i think you're saying - when you unlock the car and open the door/boot (Is it alwats the same door/the boot?) the car will re-lock in 430sec even though you have the door/boot open? If so, it means that the microswitch in the door has failed, it's a fairly common problem and an abslute bugger to fix, really complicated. It's about £150-180 all fixed from an independent garage.
If it's the boot lock that's buggered, it may mean that you have a leak in the water pipe which leads from the washer bottle to the rear wiper washer - inconveniently, it's probably broken in the boot lock, flooding it and cocking the signal up that it sends to the ECU. Do you have mysterious wet-ness in your spare tyre well/boot carpet?

The above is just a guess mind, if you can give us more specific info on what you do, I may be proved hopelessly wrong!

Would the courtesy light give a clue if it is a door switch maybe ? Stripping out the doors is a long job but not very difficult as I found out when my neighbour de-locked his car & the keeper fell off the screw - of course he did it all up before finding out so got locked in the car !

The courtesy light can be indicitive some of the time. Best bet is to open the suspect door, lock the car, wait 30sec and see if the car re-locks (and the alarm goes off)
Or, plug it into VAG-COM, it will say it has an implausible signal in the door lock module.

Mine re-arms if I only press the Fob once and do not use the ignition key within 30 seconds.

If I press the unlock on the Fob twice, it stops the auto-arm from coming on.

jinja, if you are pressing it once and, after you've opened the boot (I can only presume this is what you're doing), then you'v got the fault that benjie describes above.

Welcome to Tyresmoke, by the way
