Default VW build quality

Steering grinding issue aside (Thanks for the pm redrobin!) I am very dissapointed with the build quality of my car, the odd rattles and squeeks are getting progressively worse, I have never known such a noisy car!

Is it just mine? I suspect the hard suspension is working things loose over time.

I have had a few new cars including a Boxster and SLK and none of these were anything like as squeeky and rattley, and convertibles are supposed to suffer from the shakes!

Any squeaks/rattles I've had have been minor and have disappeared almost as soon as I've started to focus on them. How many miles have you covered? I wouldn't expect the same build quality as a Boxster....very different cost of car.

Theres been a few reported noises from the grill on the top of the dash, the tailgate, doors to name a few.

Grill on top of the dash solved with tape, doors with new pin clips and or rubber sealed lubed up.
Windows dropping due to the rubbers been a bit stiff.

I did read somewere the mk5 is cheaper to produce than the mk4.

I have a mate with a boxster S and his lass has an SLK the slk been a nightmare with things braking and the boxster has had a few rattles i guess its just luck.

Myself im not disappointed with the build quality i think they scrimped on materials in a few places could have screwed one or two things together better or used better clips and paid a bit more attension to detail but im not overly impressed with the engineering its not over engineered like previous VW/audi's were but thats just a personal view.

I guess the old saying of not buying a car in the first couple of years production still rings true as the first few years they sort the niggles out.

....That's what Captain Sensible told me before I locked him in the garden shed! It was bad enough waiting 12 weeks, let alone "a few years"!!!!

I know i could not wait any longer either. Nearly put an order in for one of the first before i had even seen it but held off for ages was very painful.
