They are everywhere, seriously - first search on google is a consolidator website that you can price sort. Mind you the stock is physical and few cars are standard spec so the real prices are a lot more.

Here in Oz;

'08 DSG new - $65,000

now - $55,000

Obviously the biggest whack comes as soon as u drive it off the dealer lot, but as time goes on the depreciation will slow, Id say here in Oz they will bottom out at around $45,000 in a few years and if kept in good nick with low miles will not go much further in the next 5-8 years.

Interesting comparison this one - esp between the UK and Oz pricing.

I bought an 18 month old Mk4 R32 for £21K (£24.5K new) in October 2004. I added 65K miles to it (it had done well over 80K when I sold it) and sold it for just under £11K after nearly three years.

I've got no idea about market conditions in Oz, but I reckon if you're getting nearly 70% of the original purchase price after three years you're doing bloody well

Been looking at trading my 06 3 door with dsg/leather/winterpack/sound pack and 6 disk & 32k miles.

Dealers were offering 12.5k-13k tops although on the cap system that car dealers use it was trade at £14.661.

I managed to wangle it up to £15k trade against a TTS....

The R32 is being hit hard! as others have said BIG engine = BIG Tax mucho fuel costs too :-(

Shame love the car and had another 6 months till balloon of 10k was due but the way things are they would be selling for less in March with 40k on the clock didn't want to risk it.

(plus due some brakes/rears tyres (had from new) and a service in that time).

Personally I would go for the one with the leather

As much as I like my R32 I think you may be dissappointed with the R32 after the Renault from a driving experience perspective. The R32 is so smooth and has so much traction that it can actually feel slow and dare say boring. I guess it all depends on what you want it for. I bought mine to be a high speed cruiser which iy excels at.

I sold my mk 4 r32 a year ago , (had it from new in jan 04) , because i needed a more day to day car and bought a new clio 197 cup in march.
I loved my golf , but i had to part with my garage princess!
I sold the golf for 72% of it's new price 3 1/2 years on . which was pretty good i thought.

I think the 197 cup is a great car for the money i paid(13k , including air and met)
excellent fun , quality is fine , and looks lovely too.
31mpg v 23 on the golf.
all out speed there is not a great deal in it , golf was a tad quicker.clio is just as much fun.
I would stay with the clio.
make sure you test drive the golf before you go any further.
