New Polo Owner (1st Car!!) - Fault Questions

Hi everyone.

This week i am the proud owner of a 1996 N-Reg Polo 1.6GL. Hurrah! There are a couple of things need doing to it and any advice here would be useful.

The biggest problem is that the passenger side front elelctric window doesn't work. When i press the switch to go up you can hear a click in the motor where i assume it is trying to move. However, as the window is closed it can't go anywhere. The problem is opening the window. When i push down on the switch there's no sound from the motor and no movement.

I've been told its not the switch and that it was probably the motor itself so i've bought one from a breakers yard.

I stripped the door down to replace it and thought i'd try the new one before pulling out the old. However, the response seems the same! The motor makes a click to try and go up but there is nothing when going down.

I've tested the circuit and there is power going to plug on both up and down commands.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem is here as i'm all out and getting it done professionally will probably cost a fortune [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img]

The next issue is the central locking. It appears to be possessed. Sometimes it will unlock everything. Sometimes just the door with the key in will unlock. When the CL has worked there are occassions when it'll start locking and unlocking while you're driving as well which was a little unerving the first time!

The other thing which is more of a curiosity is the door speakers. The 2 in the dashboard work fine but there is also 2 in the doors. These don't appear to be working. Is it a case of one or the other or have they just been disconnected for some reason?

Love the car, hope someone can help with the window (it gets hot in there at the moment!) and CL.
