RedRobin
A Search hasn't shown this info to be posted before, so here's some news of non-joy (sorry!). The device stands 4m above the road and features strengthened glass, a fire-resistant body and a stiffened steel base. It is also fitted with smoke and vibration sensors, and if attacked triggers an alarm at the nearest police station and downloads all its digital photographic data so that no evidence is lost. Called IDEE (Innovative Digital Enforcement Environment), the machine also boasts four cameras and invisible, infra-red flash technology. Produced by the Dutch firm Peek Traffic, the first models have just gone live in Holland. Home Office type approval for their use in Britain could take less than a year. J_C
Changes to the rules mean speed cameras can now be painted to blend in with their surroundings. Is this true here, or just in Holland?

[/ QUOTE ] ...Balaclava and paintball guns. I'm personally not about to do such things but I'm sure there are plenty who would and will find a way - It's a challenge for some. Having the Mother Feckers in 30/40 zones and on database doesn't bother me so much, but out on the open road does bother me. I read somewhere about them working with stuff planted in the tarmac . OldSkoO1
So many people will get points or even loose their license if the law allows for hidden or blended cameras. Its not achieving its goal either. No-one goes through the camera over the limit, if they were going too fast they slow down. Exactly what should happen, its a reminder to slow down. Only the minority idiot boy racers zoom off again, most staying around the limit. Having hidden cameras will catch out the innocent doing 38 in the 30 because they have no reminder to slow down like a visible camera. People dont realise, like my wife, she has points for going too fast both by mobile vans which aren't a visible reminder either. I think something crazy like 70% of people do on average 37 in a 30 without actively trying to speed; simply by mistake. If the cameras are for road safety, the hidden ones just wont work, they are revenue generators because there are no visible indicators to get people to slow down. Daz in his saxo will still zoom down at 50mph in a 30 and still plow down children outside a school. If the reflector gatzo things are there he will slow down. If the gov. cared about speed and safety they would install spec's along dodgy sections of road with clear indicators that average speed checks are in place. I find that a fair system to have in place then everyone understands the score. Your clearly entering a specs average speed check zone. I can deal with that in towns then you dont get idiots tailgating etc.
