jamiey
Just had the Police round. Some charming muppet speeding down my crescent has hit the back of the Golf. From the length of the skid mark's it's a miracle they didn't take out a whole row of cars (or a pedestrian) but they hit only me. There's a chunk out of the reat valance and a scrape on the painted bumper part.. The rest seems ok, but I'll only be able to see in morning. Anyone know roughly how much for a replacement? I'll take it to Witherspoon's tomorrow.
Tarmac_Terrorist
Sorry to hear your bad news. Did they catch the prat that did it? Do you think the painted bit repairable or is it split / badly gouged? Many 'smart' repairers can fix mild bumper damage relatively cheaply. I has a Vectra reay bumper repaired a while ago after it was reversed into by a fork lift truck with the concrete block counterbalance. The lower black part of the bumper on the Golf is amazingly cheap if I remember correctly. I'm sure someone on here was quoting about £80 or less. Good luck - let us know how you get on. jamiey
I'll post pics later. It's not too bad but the unpainted part of the valance has a "curl" out of it and the painted upper is scufed (and pos could be intellegently repaired). From the length the skid marks he really could have taken it out. Unlikely to get him, I looked out the window at the time but the street light is out and all I could see was a black car and a silver fiesta, which I though had reversed into a bin causing the racket, turns out it was the other way up. bugsymania
Sorry to hear that. I split the rear valance of my golf about 6 months ago. A replacement including fitting cost me approx £88. I'm sure you can buy one to fit yourself for about £40.
jamiey
Yeh just got quoted roughly the same. Unfortunately the damage is worse that I noticed last night, he pushed the car forward into a sign post so the front bumper is bent in (but is repairable) and there's grey paint on the headlamp. The garage suggested replacing the lamp which seeing as I have scraped off most of paint with my finger nail seems a little over the top... Tarmac_Terrorist
Meguirs Plast-X plastic polish should remove the paint from the headlamp. Can you be sure that no damage has been done behind the rear bumper out of sight where the bumper will have been pushed inwards?
bodger00
After a recent "someone went in the back of me" crash her insurance company forked out £250 for a similar fix. A new unpainted part and a scratch fix on the painted bit.
