oliveero
Howdy folks, The front pads are due a change on my '98 S8 and I've read on here that the EBC pads are the ones to go for. I've been to my friendly parts supplier this morning who tells me that there are 8 pads needed (4 per caliper) and that the OE pads are £81 +VAT and that the EBC ones are £141 +VAT. Looking into it some more I find that the EBC pads are ceramic which he says will wear the disks significantly quicker. I'm aware that the OE brakes weren't the best on the planet, but of those who have take the EBC route, would you recommend it? Are yours ceramic, or are there different versions? Have your disks died? Thanks for any advice! Oliver
Botang
The EBC pads are far better than the satndard pad, which IMO bordered on being dangerous for such a big heavy car. I personally have not noticed a difference in disc wear but I dont really take much notice of mileage covered so perhaps somebody else can advise you on that. Black Diamond is another alternative to the EBC which seems to have good feedback.
oliveero
Thanks Botang. So ceramic pads are the right ones then? Does anyone else have experience of them, and if how the disks fair with these pads? Thanks, Oliver
Botang
I'm not sure whether the red stuff ceramic have any more friction than the original red stuff, I think it was more about getting the pads to work well from cold.
Duffy3074
I've just fitted a set of redstuff to my 1999 S8, they're still bedding in but initial impressions are very good. Very responsive and better pedal feel.
SneakyMcC
Is that ceramic or normal Redstuff that you've fitted?
Botang
The red stuff ceramic replaced the original red stuff a few years ago
A8_Tony
I had some redstuff a few years back, and can wholly recommend them. (assuming you don't want to put RS6 disks and RS4 calipers on )
