Snail
Right, to cut a long story short, i brought a used car recently from a dealer. And part of the purchase agreement was they'd sort a faulty fuel gauge. It turned out to be the fuel pump, which was replaced with no arguments. I've had some issues with the car smelling of petrol when full, and yesterday had the car checked over. I was HORRIFIED to find my tank wasn't sealed correctly, and i have petrol leaking into my car. The mechanic would looked had to use a number of towels/tissues to get all the fuel out, and im currently airing my back seat. Im told if i was a smoker, id probably be dead now!!! I've found this link...Linky Now what do i do about it? I think im definitely owed the money to pay for the sorting of the fuel tank, to make the car safe. Should i talk to trading standards, or just ask the garage for money? It worries me that a garage can put a potential firebomb on the road, and id rather prevent that happening again, than receive the money for fixing the fuel tank. Oppinions? Teacake
How long ago did you buy the car? And is the leak related to the replacement of the fuel pump?
Veracocha
If you speak to trading standards they can advise you on laws that protect you from such things happening. Then when you speak to the company if they get at all funny you can advise them of your conversation with trading stadards and that you will take this issue as far as you need to in oder to get a resolution. Snail
I've had the car about 2-3 weeks. When the fuel pump was replaced, they didnt seal the tank proper, thus this problem is a direct concequense of the replacement.
cruiser647
I would go and speak to the garage. Tell them what a bunch of charlatan monkeys they employ. Then point out the fact that you could have been killed etc. See what happens and what they will do. See if they will re-train the monkeys. edo
The garage you bought the car should absoloutely cover all costs to rectify their work - inlcuding cleaning out the petrol smell from the car...
Teacake
I think, if you're looking to get it resolved, you'd be best off remaining polite and unthreatening at this stage. Report the problem, see what they say, and only bring in threats of Trading Standards or insults about their monkeys if they're unresponsive or evasive. pontyslapper
I'd offer them the chance to sort it, mentioning trading standards, then go the whole hog and do everything to get 'em shut down... Letters to local papers, trading standards, revenue and customs, the whole caboodle!! There was a 'dealer' up in Porth not far from here, trading as NP cars or something similar - had a rep for trading cut and shuts, was taken to court about 4 times for it before he was shut down. Even court appearances and large fines didn't deter him!! Just think, the next car they sell could kill somebody - would you like to think that you didn't do anything to stop it, when you knew what tossers they were??
