This won't hurt (much!) at all...

I was doing a bit of tinkering today and found half a nail embedded in my front o/s tyre. Being a cautious sort of chap (yes; that's why I bought a 360BHP car!), I went to the local fellows at Kwik Fit to let me know if it had caused much damage (ain't technology amazing!) Now, granted, going to Kwik Fit when you're after specialist knowledge is probably as useful as going to Currys when you want to buy a telly, but I had no idea they could tell the level of damage by quirting fairy liquid on the hole left behind.

Anyhow, classically, it was 'borderline' and '[my] choice, sir' for whether I replaced it or not but I was simply stunned when they told me that a new tyre would be £375! I'll accept that S8's may not be the least expensive car to run but I can't think there aren't more affordable options? The car has Michelin Pilot Sport 255/35 R20s all round so the question is; what would you guys do?

I run Bridgestone's on my Motorbike (ZX12-R) and have always been very happy with their quality and wear characteristics, anybody got experience of Pirelli's, Goodyear or other makes?

I'm not looking to scrimp and save for the sake of a false economy, but am I not right in thinking that rubber literally does grow on trees!? In the meantime I'm going to be taking it easy and steering clear of any more washing-up liquid!

Thanks Guys, the choice out there really is quite baffling! These Falken FK452s appear to get higher ratings than the Michelin's on almost every parameter; anybody got experience of them on an 8? I am going to see how it goes for the next few hundred miles since, typically, there's plenty of tread left on it. I'm going to investigate those Goodyear's too and will let you know if there's any deals to be done! wink.gif

Had 4x Dunlop SP9000'S fitted locally in Oct last year for £615.23 ie £150 a corner-there were Dunlop 9000's on before and they seem to have worked well-not sure what actual mileage i got,but they seem to stick well, which I think is the most important bit. I would be surprised if you can't at least match that price on the net

Bought 4 FK452's for the 18's i fitted to my A8, and the grip in wet or dry is superb. like them a lot and they are far cheaper than most of the other "major" brands grin.gif

I've just used eTyres to supply and fit a pair of Avon ZZ3s to the missus' A6. The quoted price includes mobile fitting, valve and balance. Fitter was friendly and helpful and after spotting a crack on one of the wheels he came back again the following day to fit the second tyre on to a different rim at no extra cost.

I'll shortly be using them to put four ZZ3s on my A8 @ £117.90 each. As you can tell, I like Avons!

They will do a Michelin PS2 255/35x20 for £263.90 - remember that includes fitting at your choice of time and location. 169144-ok.gif
