Dan32
Dropped car off for MOT this morning. Got back to discover curbed alloy which everyone is denying so I'm going to have to front the cost myself. On top of that, the boot won't open off the central locking. You hear it unlock but the handle doesn't open it and you then have to put key in and turn it at same time as pulling on handle. Any ideas? khutula
Hello stranger The ba5tards curbed your CHs what an ar5e. As regards the central locking - have you tried turning the key in the lock and then trying the fob. I think the key comes out at least two different places around the circle. My old Vectra used to get out of sync if you used the key in the lock and I bet the garage have unlocked it with it. Sorry that have damaged your alloy mate
Mook
With the car locked, turn the key in the boot lock in the only direction it will go. The unlock the car, lock the car and unlock the car again and it should work fine. It's the PITA way the VW central locking system works Best of luck sorting your alloy
Mook
Oh, and the reason it'll be buggered up like that Danno, is because when they went to check in the boot, it won't have been open (like it always is) and then they will have turned off the car, gone round the back with the key and fecked around with it until it came open. Oh, and then they will have realised that the R32 doesn't have a spare wheel to check... Muppets...
Dan32
Cheers fellas. Off to kick the crap out of the weights in the gym instead of taking out my anger on some poor little sod who earns £3 an hour in a garage even though I wouldn't be so angry if someone had just owned up to it. Oh the joys of owning a car you take pride in!
jimmyp
Danno, i would deffo persist in making a claim against them mate, i have a handy email address if you want it which should help things and if all else fails, lets just round there and have a chat with them Biali styley
Dan32
I'm not going to bother getting into argument with them as it will only p155 me off when it goes round in circles. Stand down the tactical nukes Jim, going to let it slide. Its a small independant as well, not a main dealer, so harder to pursue.

Baldie
Sorry to hear of your misfortune Dan Its just another case to make me adament that when I take mine for its service I'll be staying there all day if need be with me packed lunch and a couple of car mags. If it needs to go out on a "Test Drive" then I'll go with them thankyou very much Anyway Dan, regarding your alloy, I've just sorted my friend's sons' Citreon C2 which had every alloy (aftermarket wide low profile things) completely wrecked by kerbing. I used "Car plan" Chemical Metal. You mix it like bodge with a resin and hardener. You get about 5 mins working time with it and then it goes off.I applied it to the scuffs and dinks to build up the missing metal ( may need more than one application if its really deep). It dries like "Bell Metal" and can be drilled, tapped, filed or rubbed down etc. I bought various grades of wet n dry and when I had finished they looked brand new If your wheels are "Alloy " colour ( as apposed to gold/black etc" then I have found that Hamerite Silver spray is a great match. Spray a bit into the lid and use a brush to carefully apply ( thats after you've repaired it with the Chemical Metal). I know it may sound a bit bodgy but the end result can be excellent if care is taken. Hope this is of some help, it might just tidy things up in the short term. Cheers Baldie
Dan32
Nice one, Baldie! Might give this a go on the Aristos and respray them myself in the future. Wondered if something like that chemical metal would work. As for the CHs, going to see if they can't be repaired as opposed to resprayed as its more of a scratch than chunks missing. Perhaps, like you say, bit of wet and dry, some elbow grease and touch up paint might suffice until I chunk one myself!
mb
Way I always look at home repairs is provided I don't actually make the situation worse all I am down is the cost of the attempted repair materials + a bit of time so it is usually worth a try unless you know its something you won't be able to fix yourself. R32Geordie
[ QUOTE ] Its just another case to make me adament that when I take mine for its service I'll be staying there all day if need be with me packed lunch and a couple of car mags. After taking car in for the 1st time, they rang up saying they couldn't do it that day, meaning a wasted return journey in rush hour traffic. Second time, I dropped the car off at 8:30am, they phoned up at 4pm saying that it was still being worked on and wouldn't be ready that day. The next day I went to pick it up, it had been on a 33 mile round trip to Morpeth and back from Newcastle to thier "better bodyshop". Never mind that I was left with Zero miles registering on the fuel tank range they had screw drivered off the tailgate plastic trim leaving scrapes on the edges. The trim itself isn't fitted tightly back in place. Oh, and they "lost" my key ring with small torch attached to the remote fob. Baldie - watch your pride and joy with these muppets! hotdog
This central locking is doing my head in! I had a flat battery a while back, after which the central locking didn't work properly. Basically press the unlock once and the drivers door opens, press it twice and it used to open all of the doors. Oh no, not any more. Just makes the unlocking noise but the other doors and boot stay locked. I had the auto lock enabled and the dealer reset all of the locking but it still no work. Any ideas folks??
