Although it's not essential to fit a performance exhaust before a remap, it makes sense because a good tuner will get data accordingly when installing and checking for any problems. The Milltek Turbo-back (aka Hi-flow+Downpipe) will release more performance from the remap.

This is why I personally prefer to use a skilled and trusted human tuner than a downloaded remap such as Bluefin. I'm not saying that Bluefin is no good - It's known to be a good remap - But how would they deal with my current splutter problem I wonder.

I expect you already know that the Milltek will take about 1,000 miles to mature its sound so don't be put off by it initially.

Thanks mate, does make sense to have it this way, least I can get used to the increased throttle response.

Got to work out if I collect the milltek myself (in Bolton) OR have it courried.. Now if I go and get it, I can take the care to awesome GTI up that way and have a 6 hour remap fitted and I guess even fit the zorst itself.. (my mates dad will do it else at his garage).

Fitted!

Not too much difference noticable in the noise factor (only when cold can you really notice and when being driven hard). But have to say, the engine does seem a bit more eager! - look forward to the remap at Christmas time.

Leaning towards REVO at the moment and having it done at their HQ.

....That's what's cool about the Milltek - They sound relatively quiet until driving harder on the revs. Throttle response improvement is definitely felt!

Allow at least 1,000 miles for the exhaust to coke up and mature its sound 169144-ok.gif. Okay, it's no V8 or V6, but it's as sweet as a 4-pot gets imo. Besides it's fatal to get a V8/V6 because you'll constantly be going into licence losing territory just to enjoy that xzorst music!

Pop around to WHSmith's library and check out the Dec issue of "Performance Tuner" - There's a good write-up on a Stage1 Revo'd GTI. I found that I agreed with everything said. It doesn't matter about what the bhp/tq numbers are, what counts is that the Revo'd GTI feels 20-25% livelier to drive. Superb for quickly changing speed on M'way cruising as well as that wonderful surge from lower revs.

With a Hi-flow (aka Turbo-back) you're obliged to remap her one day! grin.gif Then you'll want an air intake to balance it........Slippery Slope grin.gif TeeHee

I hope you realise RR this is all your fault? lol

but seriously, I do like it a lot, it has that extra bit of grunt. Being patient I will wait for the revo, but will enjoy it when it is done. I certainly like the flash of stainless steel under my car now....

Indeed, slippery slope...
