fatcat
Mr Macca is blaming the ref.......... Surely the Engerlund 1st team had something to do with it bunch of tosspot pansies (anyone have a 'diving'graemlin).

Dave
I think the realisation that we are a very mediocre footballing nation is coming home.. It's about time that we realised that we aren't a great football power, and that things will only get worse due to influx of foreign players. Players nowadays are interesting in nothing more than money.. national honours mean nothing compared to the £50,000 per week their clubs pay. Snail
[ QUOTE ] I think the realisation that we are a very mediocre footballing nation is coming home.. [/ QUOTE ] Id disagree. Almost every player on that pitch is world class. What we are missing is the captancy. We need someone like Roy Keane, who will scream, shout, punch, etc every under performining player, and really motivate the team. Rooney was about the only person with any real motivation on that pitch. He was the only one running up and down the field constantly. Sure he messed up, but had the defence been doing their job properly, he wouldn't have needed to be there in the first place.

Dave
We kid ourselves that home grown talent is good, but in fact if you picked an 11 from the premiership maybe only Jerrard and Terry would make the starting line up.

[/ QUOTE ] In a perfect world yes, but with the younger talent, you have to put them in a world class platform to determine if they are world class or not. As shown yesterday, a couple of our younger players (and some of the older ones aren't).
garcon magnifique
There are two world class players in the England team - Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard. Unfortunately, Gerrard just hasn't found his form of late, so we rely on Rooney. I would add a fully fit, match sharp Owen to that list if it wasn't such a hypothetical concept.
