Ska
Hi Guys, I'm currently using both the AG Fast glass and polish for this. But for the life of me I cant get rid of the smears; 'tis a night mare when driving towards the sun from certain angles. I normally apply with a foam applicator then buff off with a megs microfibre, should I use news paper instead? or is there a better product? what about vinigar based household products? I stopped using these because my previous car had window tints, can I resume on the A8? Thanks
ahaydock
Newspaper may be worth ago. I use AG Glass Polish - apply with a foam pad and buff with a MF no problems!
bpsmith
How about a 2nd MF to do a final buff after removing the cleaner wit the first?
spikeyboy
I also use AG Glass Polish (even on the house windows ). Applied with Foam applicator, left to dry and buffed with a MF. Never had any problems with smears as it drys really quickly and comes off as a powder.

davyk31
My BMW Touring has dark tinted glass and i can see what seems like a mark where the wiper sweeps. it is not scratched or anything but can be seen. also the same but not as clear on the windscreen. What should I use to remove this?

Thanks [/ QUOTE ] Im wondering if this is b/c there is alot of road grime that just wont come off your wind screen or is being moved about. In terms of window cleaners, give or take personal preferences with regard smell etc. The AG products are about the best out there. I would do one or two things clay your windscreen and cleanse your wiper blades. You may find your blades are transfering plenty of junk to your windscreen!! You will get more cleaning action with an MF cloth or MF applicator. Geoff

I think its b/c bits of the rubber when there new hit the screen and mark off on the glass. Clay is probably your best bet, failing that a cheapo safty razor. I run the Bosch blades on my car now, they cost between £17-£25 for a set but they are good!! Geoff
davyk31
Was thinking of claying the car anyway so would try that on the windows too. Car is 18 months old, i have just got it but the previous owner did clean and polish it so paint should not be too bad condition but feels a bit rough. What clay should I use to give the best results and also take into account how "easy" it is to use. Any suggestions?
Ska
@ Steelwind - I did clay the windscreen a couple of months ago. The smearmark patterns are consistent with my buffing action rather than the sweep of the wiper blades and are on the inside. The windscreen is relatively new about a year old but its got that faint marking of the wiper blade sweep when wet only which Dave_K is talking about. I think I need to use a bit more elbow grease and someone suggested some wire wool with the polish or saopy water.
maersk
Holt Mixra is the best cleaner available ............... BUT it has not been available for years. Every time I find any at a market stall I buy the case. I am on my last can ! !
steelwind101
OK!! Chrome polish is my next suggestion, very strong and safe on glass. Alex @ elite car care has a few different ones. Im a Mothers fan but he might have an idea what is best. Geoff

Off the top of my head the Meguiars grey one in the kits is ideal, the blue one from Clearkote represents good value for money @ around £12 for a large bar. My best advice is to keep the paintwork well lubed as you rub. Other then that the general instructions are to take a 1/4 of the clay bar in your hand, warm it up so you can make a flat round shape and allow it to gently glide across the paintwork!! Take a look at Chemical Guys UK, they have a new clay bar system. It uses a foam and rubber block. The chances or marring are great reduced, it can be used more times as well. It isnt shape able so bare that in mind if you have gunk build up around emblems and along plastic exterior trim. Geoff
