chasdrury
When I bought my A4, it had ABT wheels fitted by the dealer. They were 225/40 which I had always assumed to be correct. I learnt later on a B6 A4 with 18" it shoudl be 235/40. i now have OEM audi RS6 style wheels on and will be up for a change of tyre soon. So, do I revert back to 235/40 as they should be - will I notice any degradation of handling etc? ALso, shoudl I get XL tyres or not? It's a quattro if that makes a difference. At the moment, I am on GSD3's. I was looking at F1 Asymetrics XL. Any thoughts? Cheers Chaz
DanG
235/40s and 'high load' whatever that means.
Phantom
Same here, the extra load is for the heavier cars, eg cabs, and simply has extra strength built into the sidewalls of the tyres. I went for 235/40 Dunlop Sport Maxx's on mine, cannot fault them or the ride
chasdrury
Mine is a saloon, so is there a need for XL? I think I am going to go back to 235's rather than 225, since they are the OE fit.
DanG
I think they are all XL on Quattro's too.

Cupramax
Quattro Cab here, mine came with XL's from the factory.
PetrolDave
XL tyres are standard (and required) on the RS4, but none of the S4's I've owned came from the factory with XL tyres - but I did fit them when they needed replacing if they happened to be available and "standard" rating tyres weren't. shark_90
XL's will give you a more positive feel as the sidewalls won't flex as much when you're hammering it. I prefer them.
