Monkeypig
Hi all, New to the Forum, just ordered a new Boxster S, Seal Grey, Turbo 18", Full Leather Black, Black Roof, Sound upgrade, Wind deflector, Amazing Embossed Head Rests, Aluminium side sills, Hard Top, Heated Seats, Litronic, aluminium gear stick / handbrake lever, parking assistance.........think thats it! I really enjoyed the process of choosing the extras, but gee, really dissapointed with the extra cost! Then I have just heard about the 550 special, however I am upgrading from a silver TT225 and adore the Seal grey, so I am going to stick with the original order. Order is placed with Leeds and I have been given an estimated delivery of April. A couple of questions: 1. Am I a nob for ordering parking assistance?????? 2. Should I try and change the order for the special All comments welcome.............I think!

Brabus
Er...actually...having seen the pics of the special edition it might be worth trying to change, will probably hold its value much better too.
nobrot
Welcome to the forums, not been here long myelf but enjoying it. You may enjoy the 'Special edition Boxster S - 50 years of 550 Spyder' thread and there are some good pix of the new 550 ltd ed. Personally I would like park assist but it isn't an option on the 550! You can only make your own mind up wether or not to change, I have ordered a 550 from leeds, there is only 160 ish due for the UK so the rareness alone is an attraction. Read the spec list here http://www2.uk.porsche.com/isapi/english/gbr/news/pressreleases/report.asp?kapitel=news&id=44 and think about the 41,700 price and you will probably try and change your order and forget about park assist? Let us know what you decide to do, either way you will have a top motor come April. I can understand you might not want another siver car after the TT, mine has a black interior which I want to avoid this time. btw I placed my order on Friday 21st and got a 1st March delivery, you Could push to try and get a March delivery? Sven
[ QUOTE ] 1. Am I a nob for ordering parking assistance?????? 2. Should I try and change the order for the special [/ QUOTE ] 1. no, certainly not! 2. hmm... maybe. Special does look sweet too... Probably good value, and it'll be sought after I imagine. But, choose the car you're in love with! Not much fun in a (slightly) better value when you actually like your first choice better... [/ QUOTE ] Absoluely, although the way I look at it, is not so much the value of the 550 its the exclusivity, I will feel I'm driving something more special than a standard S, the value is a bonus! To a non enthusiast however the difference between the 2 will be wased!
Adam
nice spec monkey - almost exactly the same as mine I am a big fan of park assistance (loved it on my previous S3) but would not fit it to a Boxster as it ruins the rear spoiler as it is not subtle. If you don't mind the looks fair enough, I think it is an excellent feature (esp in London) re. the 550 - I would be tempted but ultimately the seal grey does look great so if you like that colour go for it rather than something that might be worth a few k more but won't be your favourite colour
Monkeypig
Cheers for all the comments, I have decided that Seal Grey is the colour for me, therefore it has automatically ruled out the 550. Still not fully decided on the Parking assistance, not sure whether I think the little hole thingys make the rear end look daft or just the same but with parking assistance............. anyone got any photos so I can compare the two? If you just name the colour I'd say no thanks, but I must say it looks quite lovely. And you're right with the exlusivity. I bought a Harley Fatboy Anniversary at the time because i wanted something different too, and on top of it I sold it a year later with a nice profit... I have an 18 mth old Boxster and it's dead easy to park anyway .I don't relly see the need for the assistance. Cheers Scott
Boxster
I agree i dont see the need for parking assistance. I have a boxster and parking is very easy. I dont really think i have seen a poor colour on a boxster yet. Mine is black and the shine is fantastic. It always has a deep finish. I like the selection you have chosen also and leather seats are a MUST. However i did have heated seats but replaced them with leather. I have a kit comming from ruff this week to take my boxster to an RS. Here is a pic of my car below. plus one of my new headlights with X bulbs. Welcome to the forum! Picture 1 picture 2 Pics are a bit large, so I changed them to links.

Adam
saw another Boxster (silver) at weekend with park assistance - it looks hideous like its a clumsy after-market job stay clear PorscheBoxster (catchy name!) - have you seen a white one? jaydash
To: Adam, Your basically saying that a white Boxster looks cr*p, but recently I saw one in Tesco's car park and had to go over and take a look. I've never seen a white one before... While I was standing and staring, it's female owner came back and we got chatting, some distance from the car in the end. During our 20-minute chat, 2 other parties walked around it and took a good look. And this was at 1am in the morning, not peak time. All I can say is this: would I have even taken a second look at a silver or (increasingly popular) seal grey one? Would the other guys? The owner was advised by the dealer not to spec that colour but you can bet your bottom dollar that she is very chuffed indeed with a car that attracts so much attention. Not sure if I'd choose it but then again, £40k for an optioned-up 'non-S' model is too steep anyway. Good old German manufacturers.
Blue
all i can add is that "WHITE" and "RED" are THE hardest colors in porker world to shift "WHITE" on second hand is nearly IMPOSSIBLE to resell

Adam
jaydash - believe me mate - if I see a white Boxster I will have a bloody good look. It looks so alarmingly bad I would have to see who the awful taste to ruin such a nice car sorry but white looks on all cars IMHO and it pains my senses when I see white paint on a quality car but hey different tastes make the world a fun place I wanted seal grey coz I thought it looks great and doesn't attract too much attention - stylish, complimenting the contours of the car, good-looking but reserved is what I am aiming at - rather than "woo hoo everyone look at me" and I like yellow Porkers but a bit too obvious again (I park on the streets of London which is another factor) - apparently they don;t sell for much less but take a lot longer to shift - OPCs don't want more than one at a time
Colin M
Just back from a trip to Singapore where I saw a selection of exotica on their cramped roads. Amongst them was a white or very light cream Boxster. Caused a take 2 but I'm not sure I would risk my own money in one.
nobrot
I'm with Adam on this one white is not a good colour on the box. This tread highlights one thing though, that the boxster can be all things to all men you can spec a subdued colour like grey/silver/black and you have a very stylish statement that oozes class or the same car in red/yellow is a wehey look at me full on sports car. The thing is it carries both off perfectly, not many cars I can think of can do this...911?
Ari
Saw a white 911 Turbo couple of days ago! Oh dear...
growly
I have an 8 month old Boxster S which I have had from new. My only, slight, regret is not ordering the sports seats. They have slight wings which support your shoulders better especially when you are cornering hard. To get even better handling try the sports suspension - the stiffer anti-roll bar makes the rear inside wheel "dig-in" to the bend. The side skirts add even greater stability and make it look just that little bit different and very cool. Beware though, the Boxster S is a completely together car offering a very rewarding driving experience and is totally and utterly intoxicating! Enjoy....!!!! telebingo
Hi I'm new to all this as well. I was considering a Seal Grey Boxster S with the trimmings but was amazed at the extra cost... Saw article in Autocar about 550 and ordered this instead - also from Leeds... should be arriving any day now. The waits been long but worth it.
