Poor lights

I must say that the headlamps on dip beam are rubbish. I can hardly see a thing at night, yet modern hire cars I get through work have bright white (Halogen) lights, that illuminate the road ahead and to the side.

Aside from the expensive HID retro-fit option, is there any alternative? Have the lense units been redisigned over the years, why are my lights 'yellow' in comparison to newer A6's? I don't want to dazzle oncoming drivers, but I do want to illuminate the road ahead of me. Its dangerous!

I've fitted the new Philips bulbs, and I'm astonished by the difference. I've also discovered that the headlamp on the left wasn't pointing in the right direction. The two beams were converging, and I've now adjusted the light unit to point more towards the kerb, and raised the beam so it's level with the other light. Huge difference! The new bulbs throw out white light, to the sides too, and the range is superb. Very happy! Thanks again.

Made another adjustment last night as the beam on the left was not pointing in the right direction. Undid the two screws that fix the lamp unit in place, and tried moving the lamp, but adjustment is minimal.

Found a picture this morning on www.carlamp.com which shows the back of the light unit, and hey presto, it looks like theres a second adjuster, presumably this is for left/right adjustment. So tonight, armed with the picture, I'll see if I can finally get the beams pointing in the right direction.
