Thorburn
Ok so with being out of work for a while I haven't been able to buy bits and pieces for my computer lately, but with the first months pay packet and some christmas money I've been getting the upgrading itch. Main machine goes up from 2GB DDR2-800 to........ OCZ Technology DDR2 PC2-6400 8GB Platinum Quad Kit. Its not the last word in low latency and 8GB may seem a bit excessive but a couple friends have similar setups and say that Vistas pre-caching really comes alive with 8GB. At £150 it seemed silly not to Really I'd liked to have gone for a Core 2 Extreme QX9650 too, but I can't justify the cost just now. For our media centre I picked up LGs new combo Blu-ray Re-writer and HD DVD reader. I can't be bothered picking sides in the format wars and had told myself when a combo drive came below £200 I'd pick one up, this came in at £180 roughly including the high-def version of PowerDVD. The reader only version is even cheaper at £130, but the flexibility of the writer sounds useful considering the quantity of data stored in this house. The media centre also gets an upgrade to the ATI Radeon 3850 Pro 256MiB at around £105. A little excessive since we rarely game on that machine, but I have an objection to buying like the 2600 Pro or 8600GTS and needed to replace the current 7800GTX which lacks HDCP support. My flatmate has picked up a Creative Lab SoundBlaster X-fi PCIe too so we'll be swapping over the sound onto optical too. Should have it all by Thursday, just need some high-def movies now
