S4 Cab Audi bluetooth

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I am intending to install an Audi blutooth kit to my Cab, and in an idle moment the other day pulled out the interior light unt to discover that there is a microphone already fitted and connected in the slot where I would have fitted one for the bluetooth unit. I have RNS-E but with an S4 wheel so there is no voice command. Any ideas why and whether it should already be there? Does this mean that the prewiring for the phone is already in? confused.gif

Any advice gratefully received

Tony

Some cars are pre wired with the mic cable, but no microphone. You can disconnect the plug going into the light cluster and just connect the kufatec harness. The Bose microphone is at the front of the light cluster, as shown in the pic below.

Should note that that light cluster is of the Avant/saloon model, and not the cab model

Is the Bose mic for the speed sensitive volume control?

Yes, but from 2004 on it's a LOT more than just speed sensitive volume control.

I had a 2003 S4 with the old Bose which had just GALA - and that was useless when you drove on rough roads, or had a loud (i.e.typical) exhaust/engine - because it didn't increase the volume in those circumstances.

In 2004 they changed the Bose to Bose AudioPilot (which is what was in my 2004 S4 and is in my 2006 RS4) - which has the extra microphone to measure the sound level and frequencies inside the car. So now it adjusts both the volume and the frequency response of the Bose amplifier based on what the mic measures - so you can always hear your music clearly even on rough roads and with loud exhaust/engine.

99.99% of the time it's a great improvement, but (you knew there was a but coming...) on really hot days the mic doesn't work correctly and the volume can pulse rapidly up and down, until the air con cools the interior and the mic down. I've had this happen a couple of times in the UK, but people living in hot areas of the US can get it so often that Audi issued a TSB to dealers showing how to disable the AudioPilot and re-instate GALA.
