Cagey
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/64518 Although I can totally understand why the organisers have taken the decision to cancel this, from a personal point of view, I am gutted as I spent countless hours in the run-up to Christmas getting parts ready for a customer who had around 30 cars entered into this years event. Would have been the first time that their new car would be properly under the spotlight too. Seems that nothing is safe any more from terrorism any more. (mind you, the dakar has been struck before...)
theduisbergkid
Terrorists ? Really ? I thought it was your common-or-garden African muggers having a pop at the wealthy folk passing their way.
Cagey
Possibly in previous years, but they're mooting an Al-Qaeda link to the death of 4 French tourists on 28th Dec. Perhaps it's all a US Government conspiracy.....
Botang
I love watching the Dakar and had sky+ set up ready.

Rachel
Damn, I had the Mac Mini all set up to record the 2 broadcasts we get here daily during the race. Good on the organisers for making such a tough decision and sticking with it.
steve2
Watching the meeting of everyone on Eurosport at the moment and there is a quite a lot of people who wanted to start the rally. It has cost them a lot of money to be involved in the Dakar and one woman said she has got £40k from sponsors which she has spent in preparing for the rally but has now got to find it to give back to her sponsors. At the end of the day the French goverment have had specific threats against the rally and i think the right decicion was made, no ones life is worth losing over a race. Botang
I'm not so sure, I think it would have been good to start the race and go to Morroco as planned, if you still have to cancell before entering Mauratania then fair enough but to not start at all seemes to have stuffed the private teams big time. The lad from Senegal said that all of his sponsorship contracts were based on him starting the rally.
