deviseruk
I have brought a Glove Box CD Changer to go with my RNS-E Sat Nav. Is it easy enough to modify and fit the CD Changer into the glove box, or do I buy a glove box with the housing instead? Do I also need to do anything to the Sat Nav to tell it has a CD Changer, or is it as simple as plug-and-play? Thanks Craig
TDiAvant
You can mod your current glove-box, but it all depends on your DIY skills, but if you what a pro looking installation then replace the glove-box, I think they are around £150. You will need to buy the CD-Changer wiring harness. It's not quite plug & play on the wiring side, but it's not that hard if you have the wiring diagram. You don't have to recode the RNS-E for the CD-Changer to work, but if you can get access to vag-com to recode the RNS-E, then that would be the best option Welcome to TSN
deviseruk
Thank-you for the Welcome I have got the wiring harness, just got to fit the CD-Changer. What would I be recoding the RNS-E for, and what is it I will be recoding?
TDiAvant
You need an application like vag-com www.ross-tech.com Here is the (CD-Changer) coding options for the RNS-E, so you would change the last number of the coding, so if you have CD-Changer & Multifunction Steering Wheel, then change the last value to 7 0xxxxx?: Options II 1 - default 2 - TV-Tuner 3 - CD-Changer 4 - TV-Tuner and CD-Changer 5 - Multifunction Steering Wheel 6 - TV-Tuner and Multifunction Steering Wheel 7 - CD-Changer and Multifunction Steering Wheel 8 - TV-Tuner, CD-Changer und Multifunction Steering Wheel
deviseruk
Thank-you for this, I will have to have a play when I get time. I haven't got the Multifunction Steering Wheel, didn't have it on my last A4 so not missing it. Missing the DIS though, infact missing a lot of little extras which I read on the forum have been retro fitted.

deviseruk
I have taken apart my glove box to see how to fit the CD-Changer. I could make the hole no problem, just can't see how to supoort the back of the unit. Has anyone done this before, and just in case, how can I find out the Part Number of the proper Glove Box with CD-Changer Housing?
paul_tdi
It all depends on what year and colour your interior trim is. The first part begins with: 8E2 857 035 It will then have a further code to identify colour etc.

deviseruk
Before I put my car back together, I have been reading from various sources regarding the installation of the RNS-E. Upgrading the Revision Level of the RNS-E. Where do I get an update from and how do I do it? I am getting lost about the CAN Bus and the GALA V Signal. I have fitted the RNS-E Adapter and RNS-E Adapter + Diveristy Antenna Adapter, but do I need to do anything with the CAN Bus or something to tell the car it now has a RNS-E, and do I need to connect to the GALA V Signal? If so, where do I connect these to and from? Where is the best place for the GPS Antenna? Any help would be most appreciated.
TDiAvant
Sounds like your retrofiting RNS-E as well, the car and the navigation should be coded using vag-com. You should also ahve the correct wiring harness to convert the car's ISO plugs to Quadlock. The QPS antenna should also fit under the dash. deviseruk
I have got two questions that are probably going to be really simple to answer... The adapter for the RNS-E, the big plug for the RNS-E has got two blue stips on the connectors which prevent it from plugging into the RNS-E. Is this right? If so, have I got the wrong adapter or is there something I'm suppose to do? Next question, the CD Changer lead, where does the white plug go in to the RNS-E? Thanks Craig
TDiAvant
No that adapter just plugs in. The two blue stips are to help hold the pins in place. You need to replace the plug in the quadlock adapter, but you will need to move the K-Line and the Bose pin to the new plug.
deviseruk
So I need to remove the two blue strips then? Sorry you've lost me with the K-Line and Bose pin. Out of interest, why do I have to remove these and which pins are they?
TDiAvant
No you don't need to remove the strips, not unless you want the pins to drop out of the quadlock adapter. Do you have a wiring diagram for the cd-changer? There should be a wiring diagram on top of the RNS-E
deviseruk
No CD Changer diagram, just a wiring diagram on top of the RNS-E showing all connectors. I assume I replace one of the connectors in the quadlock adapter with the CD Changer lead connector, but which one, the B or C?
shark_90
The one that has the CD changer connections in it? It's fairly obvious from the diagram and pinouts which one it is.
