JonC
My beloved pride and joy has been vandalised Some fecker decided to smash my rear near side tinted window in the early hours of this morning I didn't hear the alarm either - must have been in a deep sleep. The Police have been informed, not that reporting it is going to do anything, I realise that, but at least they have been alerted if any other acts of vandalism take place in my road. Must have been a bit of fun for some loser as my i-pod still under the arm rest. Gutting.
Decked
It's annoying to read stories like this! I hope it doesn't cost too much to put right (or loose your NCB).
JonC
Tell me about it! I'm not going to claim and loose my NCB. Waiting a call back from VW with the cost... Didn't someone go into the back of your R recently?
shark_90
Glass should be covered on your insurance policy with the same £60 excess as your windscreen. I had my A4 broken into a couple of years ago and although I didn't "make a claim" I did claim for the glass, paid my £60 and Autoglass or whoever did the rest

JonC
Sorry to hear that. Mindless damage etc is so fecking annoying huh? There's another TSN'er on here who had a vehicle hit the rear of his R which did quite a bit of damage

Tarmac_Terrorist
Sorry to hear of your misfortune. Sounds like a plain act of mindless vandalism as opposed to smash & grab. If your car is dirty it may be worth washing the rear quarter in case falling glass chipped / damaged the paint.
JonC
[ QUOTE ] was there any other damage or just the glass? [/ QUOTE ] Just glass thankfully. RAC Auto coming out tomorrow to replace. Thing is, it looks like there some damage to the rubber seals round the window frame and also, more worringly, the very top of the gloss black metal section between the two doors, looks like its bent back a little and doesn't look right - perhaps it happened with the force of the impact? I sincerely hope that it all gets sorted otherwise its an insurance claim and bang goes 2 yrs NCB.

She was as clean as a whistle - had a 4 hour detailing session on Sunday, so was looking hot. Had a good look earlier and all seems ok.
jon79f
That sucks GTI JON. It seems to me like the bad old days of thieves breaking into cars are back - in Australia at least. They used to break in to steal stereos etc. but since they are all coded it stopped for a while. With every bugger (me included) now having portable satnav units the b@#stards have something else to aim for. I park in a (secure) underground carpark, and in November 07, 47 cars in our carpark had their front passenger window broken. My car and my wifes car were both "hit" and they weren't interested in the tennis racquet, discman cd's or anything else in the car, and the only people who had stuff nicked had iPods and Garmins in their cars. Really jacks me off. The only damage done to my wifes car was the window (and tinting), so around $500 Aud, but my car fared much worse, as the window glass fell against the car, and they scratched the door. Not only that but they ripped the ipod prep lead out of the glovebox, damaging the aux input into the back of the stereo. Car was in the shop for 3 weeks. Total cost (including a rental car for the time it was off the road) exceeded $4,000 - and they got nothing out of it. If I could get my hands on them....... JonC
Cheers Ozzy and sorry to hear about your previous loss/damage. You're right, this mindless vandalism sucks and the cost goes beyond the monetary cost. I worked out last night what the fecker who smashed my window was after - there were 2 carrier bags full of my wife's discarded clothing (which we were giving to Cancer Research) in the footwell behind the drivers seat; both were gone. All that damage, hassle, cost and inconvenience! Lesson to be learnt here: don't leave anything on view! We haven't had any problems in my road for 4/5 years, but probably some (dare I say it) junkie looking for tradable gear. Fecker!

JonC
All sorted; RAC Auto Windscreens have fitted factory tinted window within an hour (first piece of glass that arrived, arrived scratched so had to wait another day) for the excess of £70. Autoglym Fast Glass at the ready.....
fresco1
Sorry to hear of your misfortune, but sounds like you are back up and running? Despite neither being preferable, I would take smashed glass over damaged metal anyday! My GTI has Pentagon Supaglass Linky (anti bandit film with light tint) which was (from memory) c. £700 fitted. Might be a worthwhile consideration if you are worried about future break-ins, although hope you won't need it!
JonC
Thanks Fresco; that link makes for an interesting read. Although I can completley understand having it fitted, especially given my recent experience , I think I would rather put that kind of money to a new mod. Car crime in my area happens like it will anywhere, but on an very infrequent (and I hope it stays that way ) basis. I am up and running again, thanks
