The BMW i have just recently bought has been looked after fairly well but there is a bit of roughness to the paint and also the windows are particularly smeared. I reckon I should clay it but have never done this. Can someone recommend a clay for this relatively light usuage and also instructions on how to use. I have a gallon bottle of the Meguiars Last Touch detailer so do I spray the area well with this and then rub the car with the clay. does this leave a residue that then needs cleaned off with a cloth? All help and recommendations on clay thats relatively easy to use apprecaited.

Wash the car, no need to dry. Break the clay into three pieces, put two away safe. Knead the clay to warm and soften, flatten into a disc shape. Lube one panel or half panel, lube clay. Gently move clay to and fro, you will feel the bits. Fold the clay when dirty, flatten again and keep the clay and surface well lubed. If you drop the clay on the floor THROW IT AWAY and get one of the other pieces.

Keep old bits of clay for wheels and glass. Throw away when folding and kneading fail to present a clean surface.

Wash and dry the car, then polish and wax. Then gasp in amazment when you slide your fingers over a glass like surface. 169144-ok.gif

The above is spot on with regards to advice but the choice of Clay itself was also mentioned in your first post. Depending on whether you order your products online, which it seems you do considering you already have Megs LT, or via the High St I would recommend either of the following.

High St, and easier to get, option would be Megs Quik Clay. It comes in a pack with some QD but you wont need the latter due to having the LT.

If buying online, I would suggest going for some Sonus Green, as it is very mild and is a good start to using Clay as will minimise the chance of any marring when first using Clay whilst also being very effective at removing light contaminents as mentioned in your post.

You certainly will not believe the difference in the finish you can achieve. Enjoy!

I would make sure you keep the clay warm this weather, that will ensure it wont marr the surface. What i have done on the past is to break my clay in to 3 or 4 parts, then just use two of them for a winter clay.

One stays in warm soapie water while use one on a panel. Then i swap them for the next panel and so on and so forth. Mothers yellow clay is super soft as well!

Have fun and dont forget to give your glass a clay and finally the wheels!
