The Mini too far ?

I find it amusing that the double side door opening (ala RX8), is on the wrong side for the UK, on the Clubman.

Take the kids to school, park on the roadside against the kerb in direction of travel, and let the kids out into oncomming traffic.

Brilliant design! yelrotflmao.gif

The clubdoor is one of the most prominent features on the new model. It's been designed to allow passengers out of the rear seat without disturbing the driver in left-hand-drive cars. But the door is not being swapped to the other side for right-hand-drive cars

(edit)...BMW get it wrong again !

Yeah? Many a fine stag from the Munich stables I would have said....

Well the Bangle 7 Series is a challenge to the eye, the 1 Series breadvan is no beauty and the E92 M3 isn't exactly flying out of the showrooms - just some examples of where the comment 'Could do better' may have been applied. Just my opinion but as a former owner of E36 and E46 cars (including M3s), I think BMW stags ain't as pretty as they used to be.

Roll on the Mini Coupe and Mini Saloon.......

Then the Mini-Supercar, the Mini-SUV, and a completely new niche, the Mini-Mini.....

[thinks about a making a Cadbury's Mini-roll joke, doesn't bother]

Seeing as this thread is about the forthcoming Mini-SUV, I think you may have gotten those out of synch!

It's a test mule for the x drive system potentially being fitted to a Hot hatch version of the Cooper S.

Don't be fooled by the body style, AWD is there for performance, and has been keenly worked on by several tuning companies in the US for ages.

Also, in the states, the vast proportion of BMW's sold in the North East are AWD, and thats 3's, 5's and the X versions. BMW NA HQ is there too.

When the MINI first came out BMW USA said that they would work on an AWD version, and that was 2004 IIRC.

Their initial rational was to try to attract some of the Subaru and Evo gang. This was about the time the JCW kit was also released to dealers, before they made this factory fit.

Anyway, with the latest 1.6 turbo engines developing 200+bhp, there is only so much power you can use in a FWD Mini before you bald off your tyres and burn your break pads with the tractioin control. I drove a 230bhp Cooper S back in 2005 and it was M3 fast in a straight line, but had no traction in the corners, and tourque steered despite the clever drive shaft length equalising system they developed for it.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Mini, two members of my family own one. It handles well, does pretty good MPG and has an interesting owner (usually).

If it were AWD, I would take a look at one.
