zip
Hi All, Picked it up Saturday, and what a fantastic car. Weather has hindered efforts to photograph it, but hoping to apply a dab of polish on the weekend. Couple of things: - cruise control does not seem to be functioning. Could it be something as simple as a relay? Is anything supposed to show on the dash when it is on (as I don't see anything)? - one of the rear door blinds won't roll out. Are there any instructions on removing a rear door card, please? - the first aid kit, luggage net and top-up oil zip bag is missing. Are they easy / cheap to get hold of? - can I get a cheap 2008 TravelPilot disc anywhere? - want some rubber mats. Cheap source for proper audi ones, or is anyone using a good generic one that fits well? Will be getting ChipsAway in to fix a couple of dings - anybody used anyone in the hertfordshire area that they can recommend? Cheap source of front disc and pads? Discs look quite lipped. Set my 20" tyre pressures to 38 all round. What are you all running? I am mainly m-way commuting. Thanks in advance, Zip
Ska
Welcome to TSN Zip C/C is probably the stalk with a broken wire in it. For All or some of your bits you can either try A*parts for used parts or VAGparts for New OE stuuf but cheaper than the Stealers. Lots of Info on www.audipages.com for removing door trim etc And DON'T GET CHEAP DISC'S OR PADS! They'll squeak the crap out of your brains again go for some performance upgraded versions or OE from VAGparts.com; theres a few threads on here about brakes. 38 psi sounds about right that's what most of us run on our different wheel/tyre set ups. Figure11
Hi Zip and welcome, I am running Cooper Zeon 255/35 20 and most of my milage is M-Way. Curently running 40 at the back and 35 at the front. A simple test for best tyre settings is to pump them up and take pressure when cold. Do a high speed run for about 10 minutes and then check the pressures again. They should be 10% higher. If they're more than 10% they need more air, if less than 10% let some air out. do this several times. All wheel tyre combis differ slightly. Make sure your tracking is spot on before doing the check. Misaligned wheels cause more heat. Mike
mrfirepro
A few years ago I bought a 2002 S8 and within a month the cruise gave up. When I took it back to Audi, they changed the stalk telling me that it is not unusual (said in a Tom Jones styleee)and they had done a good number previously. Well done buying an absolute gem of a car , after two years of motoring it was rock solid. Happy motoring and welcome to the S8 clan
Soundwave
My S8 cruise is also on the blink at the mo, seems to work if I hold it in the on (+) position for quite a while and it is then ok, but it seems hit and miss when first engaging it. Seems like this is a common issue indeed seeing as mine is a final edition and still wasn't frikkin rectified by the end of the D2 platform production run.. b1oody Audis.. nikw
I seem to recall the cruise control issue sometimes being fixed by repeatedly switching it on and off to clean the contacts. Worth a go but probably best done with the ignition off to be on the safe side.
fudge
I had the same problem with my facelift S8. Intermittent at first then refused to engage. As others have suggested the stalk was at fault. The cruise is activated by a wire which flexes and, eventually fails. Fixed mine with a replacement stalk which I fitted myself. Not difficult but you have to take the steering wheel off which means removing the airbag first. As I recall, the new stalk was about £85 but that was 3 years ago. Took me about an hour. IT_S8
Cruise stalk is almost always faulty as a result of not being used.... Nearly every car we see it doesn't work, then after flicking the switch on/off/on/off for a while, they generally start working.... We can supply second hand ones, but try the above first, it costs nothing, and you dont have the hassle of removing the steering wheel, cowel etc to do it. zip
Is any light supposed to come on in the dash when cruis is on? I don't see one,and can't see reference to one in the manual. My old Saab 9000 did. Zip
Abs
There are no lights on the dash to show cruise is on. You simply press the SET button, and your speedo will stick at that speed. IIRC only works at speeds over 30mph.
PsYcHe
Not sure about the post-facelift, but my pre-facelift, you can usually feel it draw the throttle pedal in a little when cruise is engaged. But the only real way is to take your foot of the gas and see if it keeps the speed up
