iPod link question

I have been looking at iPod link options. I know the OEM one isn't very versatile, but my question is simply this:

If you set the play mode to Random/Shuffle and you skip to the next track, is the shuffle mode cancelled and the next track in the playlist chosen, or does it pick the next track at random?

I spend a lot of time in the car and I like the iPod to just play randomly, and if I don't fancy the track that's on I like to skip to the next (random) track. My Phatbox was great for this as is my Alpine head unit in the S2, but I've been looking at the Xcarlink product and apparently if you're in shuffle mode and skip forwards a track, shuffle mode is cancelled

If someone with the OEM VW link could test, it would be appreciated (preferably with a Gamma/Beta HU just to be sure)

If the OEM one does behave like that, it's bloody ridiculous. I don't have one, but of the Dension and Harmon Kardon ones I've used, it just tells the iPod "next track please" and the iPod does what it should.
