TonyGTI
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/333709.htm Hi, Im looking for a Golf turbo and i've seen one on pistonheads.com (see link above), i was just wondering why its at a low price. Also the seats don't look like Recaro's to me, i thought they come as standard on the turbo gti models. Also, is it wise to buy a car thats been modified like the ecu re-map? Thanks Tony
burble
The current owner has only owned it since September 2007 and it has 6 previous owners. I'd be a bit cautious if I were you. I don't think that Recaro's came as standard, they didn't on my 2002 GTI. Any idea where the remap was done? The rear windows look dark enough to attract some attention from plod. Also I don't like the Porsche 'Turbo' badge that's been stuck on the back.
mikemod
Recaros were standard on my 2000 GTI but after that I think they were changed to " Volkswagen Sports Seats"
Maxyboy
my 2001 car came with the recaros as standard. it should say it on the seat as clear as day. the pic isnt to clear though is it.
TonyGTI
Ok thanks m8, how do you know about the 6 owners and them owning it since sept 2007? I thought it sounded dodgy. I don't know where the remap was done. Its probably been ragged! Thanks for the reply.

burble
If you go to www.autotrader.co.uk there is a box on the left hand side where you can enter a registration plate and you'll get some information back about the car. A remapped car isn't necessarily to be avoided, I made mine remapped at 15k and when I traded it on 90k it was still on the original clutch (clutch failures are pretty common on remapped cars), the gearbox felt brand new and it didn't touch oil. I did drive it hard at times but the car was always well maintained.
TonyGTI
Thanks, its good that. Is a remap the same as having a superchip fitted?
