theduisbergkid
£1277 and drive her away ... I wonder if they're OK with emissions and NCAP etc, and therefore could be sold here ? Anyone remember CityRover ?
Booster
Has it even got a catalytic converter? That would make up a good percentage of the cost of the thing surely
cruiser647
If they buy Jaguar, maybe that can be the new Jaguar city car. The Jaguar A type.
fizzbitt
to be honest i thinks its damn good for the monies.. I could see it selling very well even here. New and young drivers would love it!
gizze
I agree. Even if it were £2k or £2.5k it would do well.
EssFour
Tata have gone back to basics. How cars were built back in the day. No sat nav, elec windows, ac etc or other creature comforts. Just an engine, seats, shell and windows. If it is that cheap, gives the economy is claims and has a good NCAP rating then it is a bargain. I suspect it'll be a rattly smoking deathtrap compared to Western stuff though. Cruiser, how about 'CityJag' ?
Andy_Bangle
It should do well if Tata can get it licensed and built in other parts of the World (China, Russia etc) Here's the spec from their website: * Length: 3.1 metres * Height: 1.6 metres * Width: 1.5 metres * Weight: 600kg * Engine: Rear-wheel drive, 2-cylinder, 623 cc, multi-point fuel-injection petrol engine. Engine is rear mounted. Tata said it was the first time a 2-cylinder gasoline engine was being used in a car with single balancer shaft. Developing 32bhp at 5500rpm, its engine delivers only modest performance – Tata claims 0-44mph in 14secs and between 66- and 70mph flat out. * Safety: Tata said the Nano has an all sheet-metal body, with safety features such as crumple zones, intrusion-resistant doors, seat-belts, strong seats and anchorages, and the rear tailgate glass bonded to the body. Tyres are tubeless with high-profile 12in wheels as standard with unassisted drum brakes at each corner. * Environment: Tata said tailpipe emission performance exceeded current regulatory requirements (in India), and the Nano had a lower overall pollution level than two-wheelers made in India. It said high fuel efficiency (20 km/litre - 50mpg) ensured low carbon dioxide emissions. Also mooted by Tata is a diesel-engined variant which should better the petrol’s 57mpg and its CO2 emissions. Dave
We may well laugh at this car, but it's going to be massive. They will sell millions of these if the price is kept right. China, India, Vietnam, indo.. all these places are crying out for a motor like this.. do you think they worry about emissions?.. of course not
garcon magnifique
I tend to believe Tata on the emissions point - the Nano will have lower/cleaner emissions than the millions of scooters, scooter-rickshaws and scooter-van type things (is there a name for them?!). Or at least it will while it's still relatively new/well maintained.
Matt R
If they ever bought it to the UK, it would probably cost about 6k by the time our government have had their chunk!
Dave
Can you imagine a PCP? That'll be £50 a month for 36 months with a final payment of £
techieboy
But hopefully you'd never be allowed on NSL roads with only a 33bhp engine - they'd be rolling roadblocks

If they were imported, you can imagine the blue-rinse and tartan rug brigade driving them though

techieboy
They must have been looking at some Euro-stylee Golf's and Polo's when they were designing it, judging by the 6" wheels on it. Maybe it's going to use moped tyres.
edo
Some questions I have: They say it meets requirements for emissions - what are the requirments for emissions in india (if any)? For that price, does it have a catalytic converter? I'd love to see how that did in an encap test....
Chav
[ QUOTE ] But hopefully you'd never be allowed on NSL roads with only a 33bhp engine - they'd be rolling roadblocks [/ QUOTE ] The power/weight is equivalent to 90bhp in an A3 - so its not that bad!! alera
I can see them selling millions of those at £1200 (probably £2000 if they sell it over here) Wouldnt like to see the result of my a8 going into one at 60mph though... 2 tons vs indian made tin can on wheels Can sense a top gear challenge comming on.... Lets be honest would you feel safe driving one of those on uk roads ? Cant be good for petrol costs moving forward.....
jettadeluxe
Guaranteed that there is NO WAY you'll see one of these for sale in the UK brand new atunder 3995 unless someone privately inports it. Currently 1300, then needs shipping, import Duty plus all import clearance charges, inland shipping to dealers, all dealer overheads (wages, ground rent/lease, misc bills) plus registration, dealer profit, road fund licence and VAT. Yup, around 4k at least!
shark_90
A great idea, not sure it'd work in the UK though. As Chav says the BHP figure isn't really a problem, but the fact that it tops out at 70mph isn't good. Although I don't think I'd want to go much faster than that!
