bpsmith
I would say the Wii for sure! Moved form my PS2 to that and will never go back!
Dave
I'd agree. I use the Wii now more than anything else. I don't have a PS3, and at the moment still not inclined to get one. X-box 360 is good, but aimed more at the serious gamer.
aceplumbers
xbox 360 for online gaming , but this thread will just throw up my ps3 is better than your 360 fight again
wyliss
I understand. Not really into the interactive Wii, whats best after that for games like Call of Duty,Grand Theft Auto and Football games etc?
Dave
X-box 360 elite or PS3, take your choice.
Big_Al
If you want to sit down, chill out and play serious games take your pick of xbox360 or PS3. If you want a fun machine that your mates/family can all join in and have a good laugh, then it's got to be the Wii.
wyliss
Thanks for the input guys, looks like it may be an Xbox. Looking forward to playing Call of Duty 4, suppose its a bit different from days of 'Desert Strike' on the older machines !

Booster
Got a Wii and an XBox and the Wii is perfect for nights with friend's round but having got the XBox recently I literally can't keep off it! The mrs is going mad! I was playing Tiger Woods at lunchtime today and will have another 30 minute window when I get in before she gets home from work. Sad but it is bloody addictive
wyliss
My brother calls the Xbox 360 and COD4 the 'relationship wrecker' !. I see what you mean about squeezing in the odd 30 mins whenver you can, What is it with women who always want you off these things?, do we have a go at them when they are on the phone for hours to their mother or friends? Booster
You will need a wireless adaptor. They are £55.

Sparky
I'd say PS3 and Wii combo. The PS3 tide has turned.
Chav
For the record, unbiased.... It's the games that should dictate which console you buy! With spiralling development costs, the days of lots of titles being platform exclusives are gone - so really it makes naff all difference. PS3 is overpriced. But PS3 and X360 will be <£200 with big hard drives and more interactive controllers pretty soon - MS and Sony are scared to death of Nintendo - and they should be! Personally, I recommend that no-one buys any of them assuming any kind of upgradeability path or compatibility etc..... It just never happens. Both will be obsolete within 3/4 years as always. So I guess I'm saying buy the cheapest one that had the games you like most! (Price of games also relevant I guess....X360 games getting cheaper quicker at the mo I think)
Chav
Also for the record, neither has a significant performance advantage over the other, regardless of what any press review or so-called "guru" may say! Limitations are far more complex than just the cpu for instance. I think you'll see much better games within the next 12-18 months also (in terms of graphics).... always takes a few years for things to filter through. Sparky
It's intersting you say that as EA reacently said that their games are only utilising about 23% of the performance of the PS3 - I can't see that being so on the 360? PS3, with extra pad and a game for £300, and you don't pay for online? Can't see how that's over priced to be honest and neither can a few of my mates shopping their 360 in for a PS3. The PS2 took at least 2 years before decent games were coming out. It's going to be the same for the PS3.
Chav
If EA games are only using 23% of real-world performance, it's pretty easy to subdivide the meshes and type build. But it's not that easy, so them even coming up with that number is ignorant of someone at their end. Theoretical bandwidth/polygon counts are a tool for PR teams - not developers. p.s. I've been writing 3D engines for 15+ years. Typically it takes years of refinement on a platform to get the most out of it, but its a cyclic cause/effect process - not a simple numberical comparison. You seem pretty biased towards the PS3 Sparky, which is fair play - you prefer that system. I was just giving my views as someone in the industry that's not biased towards any of the platforms in particular. For games in general, the future is exciting - but gameplay is currently evolving quicker than graphics performance.

[/ QUOTE ] Totally fair comments, but the reason i haven't gone out and bought a PS 3 yet is because real world performance is so close. I've yet to find a game that is unique to either platform that makes me think.. wow, that is unreal. If and when GT comes out on PS3, and is as ground breaking as it once was, then i might splash some cash.
Sparky
I agree, at the moment there's little in it performance wise. In fact, I've not spotted any difference. I've said it many times before - both are good machines. I do however think the PS3 has a hell of a lot of miles left in it, which I don't think the 360 has. Bear in mind they are already working on the hardware for Xbox 3. I just couldn't get on with my 360. I wanted to! I don't think MS or Sony need worry too much either - the Wii is a machine we use when mates/family is round, otherwise it doesn't get a look in anymore. Dave
I agree, I don't think you can compare the Wii to either the 360 or PS3.. it appeals to a completely difference audience. But it does make you wonder. How big is the market for 'specialist' consoles like the PS3 and 360 as opposed to the market that the Wii appeals to. Out of the 3 manufactures I would want to be Nintendo. It's a good machine that appeals to the family market.
Sparky
Actually, I'd rather be MS or Sony. Nintendo have made a great machine, but if they don't follow it up, then what have they got really? Sony and MS have got very large fan bases of dedicated gamers, my included, and the Wii has never replaced my PS3 - it's just a different type of game. For me, if anything, it's the Wii that's more likely to be replaced.
Chav
Christ you're biased. Here's an example of Nintendos dire performance in 2007.... [ QUOTE ] A rise in Nintendo's share prices yesterday saw the company's market value soar beyond that of Sony's, placing the company in the list of top ten companies in Japan. According to Bloomberg, Nintendo's market value yesterday reached a record 6.57 trillion yen (that's £26.5 billion in real money), overtaking Sony who's value dropped to 6.51 billion yen. Of course, the Wii and DS are to thank for that, while disappointing PS3 sales and high production costs hit Sony's profits.
