Mook
New project at work and we need a video card that'll drive 2 x 19" monitors VGA at a res of at least 1024 x 768. It doesn't need to be more than 16 bit colour and we would prefer to use standard VGA connectors, not the DVI ones. The PC being used is a Dell Optiplex 755 Mini Tower with Win XP, so it can take a full length card - it can take 1 x PCIe x16 full height graphics, H: 4.2" X L: 9", according to the spec. It's one of those things where I've got no idea where to start!
burble
I think you'll be hard pressed to find a PCIe card with a single VGA output, let alone dual. You'll most likely have to use DVI to VGA converters which if the card doesn't come with will set you back about a fiver each. You're not asking for a high resolution so any old PCIe card will do. I've got a GeForce 7800 GTX in this machine (sodding expensive when I bought it but below entry level now) and it's running a pair of 24" TFT's at 1920x1200 each with no bother at all. Mook
So if we go for DVI output and get the converters, what's a good brand/card to go for? I've been quoted £350 for a well over-spec'd card, which is almost as much as the base PC unit
CarMad
Best value for money graphics card out at the moment is the 8800GT.
burble
Like you said, a £350 will be well over spec'd. I quite like XFX graphics cards. Something like this should do you nicely. I don't know if it comes with a DVI-VGA adapater but they're not very expensive so it may be worth buying one anyway.
