[Audi A3/S3] Just got an A3 2.0TDi - not massively impressed...

I've just got a 2.0 TDi Sport as a replacement for my A4 2.0 petrol. Been wanting one for a while..

Picked up the car after having test driven it previously, but the more I drive it, the less impressed I am unfortunately. frown.gif

Driving up M1 after collection the I took it steady (fairly heavy traffic) and was expecting 60mpg, but only got about 53 (on the DIS). 2.0 A4 would have returned 44-45mpg with that sort of driving... and A3 should do 52 overall?

Performance is good in the lower gears (spins wheels in 1st and 2nd in wet) but in the higher gears its not that strong. I'm hoping a remap will sort this out?..

Build quality really is down on the A4 (despite this being 3years newer than my A3). Dont like the dash plastic, and the doors dont shut with the same thud.

Maybe I was expecting too much from it - just really hope the remap puts the smile back on my face!!!

I've never ever seen a 2.0TDi do 60mpg and I don't even think Audi figures say it will achieve that. 53mpg is outstanding in my eyes! shocked.gif

The A4 has double-sealed doors so the doors so shut with a more satisfying thud than the A3. But to be honest the difference doesn't bother me that much (I previously had an A4 also)

And yes, REVO will put a smile on your face! grin.gif

I picked up my 2.0t Sportback last night. I am massively impressed. The quality is superior to BMW and at least on par with my E class.

I got 35mpg on a 3 hour run last night which I am well happy with. I was worried that the suspension would be too harsh but for a sporty car I think it is spot on.

My only complaint is that I think a car of this quality and price should have decent interior lighting and cruise control as standard.

if its a new car then you need to give it at least 5000 miles before you start worrying about the fuel economy. Let the engine loosen up a bit and the economy will improve.

Mines at 19k now, and on a steady 65mph run to work (20 miles) I can easily get 60mpg showing on the DIS, and in one case 70 smile.gif

Welcome to TSN Moisty beerchug.gif

Yeah they do scrimp a bit to say the least on the kit, interior light pack is a must, but its just an extra way to get more money. I had to add loads of extras to get mine up to scratch but then it was a company car so not quite the same.

If the economy starts to fall away I really do believe that the big brands might not be able to shift the cars with these silly prices. crazy.gif

Apologies for bringing this thread back to the top... didn't really feel this question justified a new thread... does a 2005 Sportback 2.0 TDi SE seriously not have fogs as standard? I've seen a few advertised with ghastly plastic blanks over the foglight openings. Are they mis-advertised standard (non SE) models, potential lower-spec European imports, or yet another example of Audi scrimping?

Buyer don't want the firm suspension and low profile tyres on the Sport model.

Am I the only one finding that hard to believe?

44-45mpg from a A4 2.0 Petrol?

My TFSI won't even do that, and the car is lighter and more efficient.

Average we've had on ours over about 40K on a high mileage engine is about 34.5mpg calculated MPG but I have seen low to mid 40s on DIS (appreciate it isn't accurate). On one occasion it managed 49.7mpg on DIS but it was a very long downhill stretch from our village to the next town wink.gif

Yep 2005 SE Sportback will not have Fogs as standard, I had to specify them as an optional extra.

My average now over 75k miles on my 2.0 TDi A3 is 59.4 (calculated - not DIS which was 5% out in Audis favour).

Most tanks now give me 62+ mpg, although I do have a habit of slip streaming lorries all day.

My Volvo V70 D5 (big car) only ever manages 45 mpg tops even when driving at my usual gradad pace.

My old 1.6 Jetta TD only gave a max of 59mpg, so overall I am more than happy with the A3
