encee
As per the thread-title, does anyone know from what month in `07, or what build-week the higher-power engine was introduced ?
gizze
Production started Sept 07, so first cars would be around the 21st I would guess. The demonstrators that are starting to appear now will have the 177bhp engine. It is more than just a power increase though, it has new injectors among other things and it is the first thing you notice is just how smooth it is, more like a vag fsi 4 pot than a derv, even at idle. gizze
If it is a manual. The tailpipe is also straight out on the 177bhp version, not sure if this is the case on the 163bhp version?
edo
I think it was sraight out on my previous 163...
tinka
my 163bhp 320d tailpipe is turned down,i think the dpf 163 models have a straight tailpipe.
encee
[ QUOTE ] Easy to spot which is which as the 177 will have stop start function.. [/ QUOTE ] Ed, I presume by "start/stop", you mean where the engine switches on/off in stationary traffic (think I read about that feature somewhere ?), or just the start/stop button. Forgive my ignorance mate.....
CarMad
It will have the efficiency Dynamics with the 177 bhp version that includes the engine stop function when your at lights etc.

Cleybrooke
Of course it may be a 163 with the DP filet on - in which case it will have a straight pipe out the back

Tarmac_Terrorist
How does the auto start/stop work? If you were to live in an urban area would your car not be constantly starting / stopping resulting in increased engine wear on cold engines and windows steaming up! gizze
It will only stop when up to temp, and the climate still works for up to 30 minutes.
edo
You can also turn it off. My only question is around the turbo if it is hot - but I am guessing they must have thought of that. I am also assuming the starter motor is pretty hefty!
Soapsuds
The turbo is fed by a water / oil pump when hot. It takes about 5 mins for the car to fully shut down anyway.....
