JonC
What mods, if any, has anyone planned for their GTI's this year? I myself am planning lowering my GTI with a FSD's & ProKit set up such as Red Robins. Also considering, but not sure as yet, the Revo stage 2 (Will post a thread getting people's thoughts in the tuning section in a minute)
RedRobin
....Just to let you know, Jon, that the KoniFSD+ProKit setup doesn't lower the car that visibly. Yes it lowers but without a side by side comaprison it doesn't have that 'lowered look'. The FSD's don't work properly if it's too lowered. Mods 2008? - Hmmm....Well earlier today after spending time with Dan32 I was re-awakened to the benefits of a Quaife ATB (limited slip diff) but I got followed and stopped by an unmarked car for 95 within 10 miles of home tonight (and then let off!!!!) and so my enthusiasm for being modded has been dampened, I hope temporarily . dogbucket
debating whether to bluefin, £599 for 307hp cannot be bad..
AlexM
Well worth it mate, you can get a 10-15% discount if you tell them your on various forums as well. Can't remember if Tyresmoke gets that discount or not. Probably look at the suspension and maybe a brake upgrade. If i have spare cash a Milltek exhaust as well, did a lot on the audio and bluefined it last year Now on that slippery slippery slope

I hope your Police tug won't dampen your spirits for too long!
RedRobin
....I'm guessing that having followed me for about 10 miles, the policeman had seen that my driving wasn't out of order but it was just my speed that was not according to UK law. Whereas I openly don't agree with the 70 limit on dual carriageways/M'ways when the conditions are right, I do need to try harder to reduce my speed. Part of the problem is that I know what my car feels like at 130+ mph from driving in Germany - Very stable and at ease. The Golf GTI is built for German roads. With 6pts I must be more careful. On the subject of new mods..... I've just bought some LED rear lights (genuine VW) similar to the Passat ones.

[/ QUOTE ] I look forward to seeing these RR As the led's draw less power will they not cause conflict with the computer system (ie warn of rear lights bulb failure) or do they have resisters fitted to compensate for this? RedRobin
....Good question. I know two UK guys who have these LED's fitted, one of them for 6 months (on a Steel Grey) without problems and the other had his (Laser Blue) GTI's first MOT this month with the LED's without problems. The Blue GTI owner hasn't needed to use VAGcom - I specifically asked when I spoke on the phone with him today. I'd have to leave a message in another forum to ask the Grey owner. I don't know at which 'end' the resistors would be located - At rear light unit 'end' or elsewhere further forward in the car. I do know that after changing the reversing and fog lenses for righthand drive (very easily done), it's just a matter of plugging the electrical connections back in to complete the job. Surely it would be more logical for these LED units to have anything needed such as a special resistor, attached close to the unit? These LED rear lights are manufactured for and specifically ordered by VW, I'm assured. Hence why they are called "VW original" parts. Don't ask me which, if any, VW production lines they are on! I'll phone my 'Blue' friend again in the morning. He's a well qualified engineer so should know.

RedRobin
....You won't regret it, oxfordlad. I've switched mine from Stage1 to Stock a few times and the main difference in 'real-world-UK-road-driving' is decisions for overtaking. Without cutting margins too fine (which you should never do any way!) overtakes are noticeably more easily and quickly completed. The trick is to slow down after overtaking!! which I didn't do recently and consequently got stopped by an unmarked police car (quite legitimately!). My own fault.
